Popped in for a coffee/tea & cake.
We thoroughly enjoyed our choices.
Service is still slow but you forget about that whilst sitting down and enjoying your chosen food & drink.
Usual last question "Will I return?"
Yes, whenever in the area

We've seen some appetising-looking meals being served up when we've had coffee at the Acorn cafe, so decided to call in for lunch today. Very disappointing, my goat's cheese and sundried tomato panini was presented in what appeared to be a sub roll, toasted on both sides, and the accompanying salad comprised cherry tomatoes well past their best and quite inedible, with some limp salad leaves. Hubbie's pasty was very soft as it had clearly been heated in a microwave, and some of his potatoes were cooked whilst others were the wrong side of 'al dente'.

I appreciate the period between Christmas and New Year is perhaps difficult for obtaining fresh supplies, and predicting customer numbers, but really they should offer only a limited menu if they cannot present fresh, tasty and appetising items from the regular menu.

visited with living social deal for a cream tea, I have given 5 stars simple because we were made so welcome, maybe the cream tea could be a 4 if I was fussy,it would have been nice to have a warm scone and we had to eke out the clotted cream as they had run out(more whipped cream was provided).but yes I would defiantly go back as it was just a happy friendly place, looking forward to the summer when we can sit outside.

Visited on a Living Social deal, the cream tea was nothing like the picture, large horrible scone served very cold with a little pack of jam and cream. Pot of tea was OK. Was obviously worth the £5 voucher price for two, but not worth a special journey

Our last visit was cut short by a power cut that prevented our sampling the delights of the café. This time, all was well and my wife and I enjoyed 'elevenses' with a cup of coffee and a generous portion of cake. We had two different types of cake (Marble and Coffee and Walnut), though neither could have beeen termed freshly made. The service was friendly and brisk, though there were only about six groups of people present. The first dining area contains seating for about 18 persons, together with the service bar, kitchen and a wood-burner that was most welcome on this rather chilly morning (the garden centre building itself was unheated and we froze). There are two other self-contained dining areas that are presumably heated, though we didn't venture into either on this occasion. The lighting was subdued, through lack of windows, but the other dining areas were brighter, being served by large windows. All in all, a nice little hideaway for a snack, or meal, with pretty fair prices and the garden centre shop is well stocked with high quality goods (but please buy a space heater!).
