This cafe changed hands a while ago and is greatly improved. Service still tends to be a little slow but friendly and helpful. Good choice of home-made cakes.

Well, Richard, Matt, Rachel, Chris and the team excelled themselves! We'd booked the whole venue for a special night out to mark Maundy Thursday and couldn't have been more impressed. Our group comprised all ages and a real cross section of backgrounds. The Oaks offered a choice of three hot main course dishes. The food was absolutely delicious, piping hot, and all 50 of us were served TOGETHER - that's no mean feat! The mains were accompanied by seasonal vegetables, again steamed to perfection - no mushy cauliflower or broccoli here. Dessert was a choice between a rich cheesecake or fruit crumble, and again it was really good. Teas and coffees followed. Our tables were laid attractively with Spring flower baskets, and NOTHING was too much trouble. As minister of the church I generally hear quickly if anything isn't quite right, and the feedback has been 100% positive. In fact, everyone is asking me when can we do it again. Fantastic job. Well done!

Thank Nigel F

Popped in for a coffee/tea & cake.
We thoroughly enjoyed our choices.
Service is still slow but you forget about that whilst sitting down and enjoying your chosen food & drink.
Usual last question "Will I return?"
Yes, whenever in the area

We've seen some appetising-looking meals being served up when we've had coffee at the Acorn cafe, so decided to call in for lunch today. Very disappointing, my goat's cheese and sundried tomato panini was presented in what appeared to be a sub roll, toasted on both sides, and the accompanying salad comprised cherry tomatoes well past their best and quite inedible, with some limp salad leaves. Hubbie's pasty was very soft as it had clearly been heated in a microwave, and some of his potatoes were cooked whilst others were the wrong side of 'al dente'.

I appreciate the period between Christmas and New Year is perhaps difficult for obtaining fresh supplies, and predicting customer numbers, but really they should offer only a limited menu if they cannot present fresh, tasty and appetising items from the regular menu.
