The title is the name of the package we got which was excellent value. It included afternoon tea and B&B for £70. Hard to beat!! We also had a lovely bar meal - scampi and burger - beside the cosy real fire. The old castle section is worth seeing with all the talk of ghosts and history, and the gardens provide a beautiful setting. Staff were universally friendly. So why not a 5-star review? A few things. Car park was small and cramped so we had to park up the street. There is no free wi-fi which is a bit behind the times for a modern hotel. And the afternoon tea service wasn't great - we had to ask for butter, cream and jam to be brought out. All in all, though, minor quibbles. If you get a good deal, don't hesitate for a short break!

Ballygally Castle, just north of Larne on the Antrim Coast, was the perfect stop for us on our journey to Belfast. All that lies between the hotel and the Irish Sea is the road and a carpark – so the views are lovely. We had an executive room, which was spacious and comforable - the beds in all of our experiences of Hastings Hotels have been very comfy! The breakfast was the usual Hastings tasty fare, including the option of a Bushmill's porridge (a shot of whiskey, cream and honey - very tasty indeed!).

We didn't try the restaurant for an evening meal, but the bar was a nice place to relax of an evening, although a few loud and inebriated guests made our stay a short one - we retreated to our room to avoid the raucous and sexist jokes they were sharing (not just with each other, but the whole bar) - no fault of the hotel, of course, just people being . . . well, themselves!

Make sure you make the effort to climb the stairs to the 'haunted tower' - where a previous wife of an owner was either pushed or jumped to her death (depending on which story you go with!). Adds to the atmosphere!

Had a weekend break just after Christmas and really could not fault this hotel. The character of the hotel and the furnishings are tasteful and the staff are very friendly. We stayed in a room at the front overlooking the sea and it was great and very relaxing. We ate in the restaurant and found the selection and quality of the food superb. Breakfast is lovely. They seem to be working outside the hotel but we still managed a walk around the lovely gardens. Nice place for a romantic break.

We stayed at Ballygally Castle hotel for a few nights as a base whilst visiting family in Northern Ireland. Rooms were comfortable and clean, staff were friendly and the location by the beach was lovely and made travelling up the Antrim coast very easy. The hotel seems to often have offers on including dinner and reduced room rates so would suggest looking at those prior to booking as the package we had was good value. We ate in the restaurant on both nights, food was good, would recommend the seafood chowder!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with sea view

This was a last minute surprise from my husband which he booked the day before our arrival. On arrival the hotel was welcoming and the reception staff were friendly and helpful, we were alocated the Glenarm room which was situated in the old historic castle tower of the hotel which included the narrow spiral staircase which was used as a short cut by other residents to make their way back to the new part of the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable but due to the location of the room it also came with the creakey floor boards and beware if you are a light sleeper (as I am) there is a function room directly below the room. The meal in the restaurant was excellent and we can highly recommend the seafood chowder and the sirlon steak. The hotel was in a beautiful location, all the staff were very friendly and helpful and we are looking forward to our next visit.

Needing to relax and unwind the Ballygally Castle hotel was just what we needed. Comfortable clean rooms, sumptuous towels, good food in a spacious restaurant with attentive staff, excellant location with quirky gardens and a stream. We took the bus up the coast to Cairnlough and had a pint in a pub which Ballygally doesn't have, in fact, there is only a Spar and residential properties in Ballygally. We stayed three nights and only one of them was disturbed by noisy residents staying over from a wedding held that day, batteries well and truly recharged.
