The place is clean and more than adequate with a warm and well prepared kitchen. George the owner knows the right places for spotting seals and some good roads for Bikers. There is also free parking at the back, and its very quiet.

Stayed a few nights here last September and was lucky enough to have a room to myself. Location is ideal, hostel immaculately clean and well-equipped. Listen to George and follow his advice - he knows his stuff. Can't wait to go back.

My reviews are always affected by things to see and do in the area, and how friendly the locals are, so it definitely gets a 'five' from me, but even without external influences, this hostel would be a five anyway. What more can you want? Clean sheets, plenty of hot water, great kitchen and lounge, decent fridges and washing machine/drier. Situated overlooking the harbour and easy walking distance from the shops. I warmed to George, the owner, when speaking to him on the phone from London, and he's a great guy, extremely helpful.

It´s an amazingly clean and well equipped hostel, cozy and warm, situated very near the ferry terminal and the city centre, with a supermarket very close to it. The owner is great, really friendly and helpful (Thanks again, George!!). The views over the port are priceless, especially at sunset, while having dinner in one of the most clean kitchens I´ve ever seen. The rooms are really well isolated and spacious, the beds are comfortable... There´s nothing wrong to say about it!!! We highly reccomend it as a perfect base camp in Orkney.

You'll find a well equipped hostel with absolutely friendly owner family here. We stayed three days at the beginning of our Orkney visit and one day at the end. The location is superb, the hostel is located near the harbour and bus station. The center of stromness is only 300-400m away, supermarket, car rental station as well as fuel station are next to the hostel. We got a spacious room with two bunk beds. Everything looks quite new, is well maintained and clean. It's hilarious to read that some people are disappointed about the condition of the facilities. Considering that you're staying in a hostel, it can't be better! Especially the kitchen was a great surprise, new facilities with a wide selection of crockery. During breakfast you can enjoy a wonderful sunrise view over the harbour of stromness. Finally, I want to thank George, the owner, for his extensive support. Unfortunately, we got trapped on the neighbour island of Hoy due to bad weather conditions. George organized everything, he even picked us up with his own car from Houton ferry terminal on the next morning to carry us to Stromness. Thank you so much, George! Best host ever! :-)
