“Simply The Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2012

My wife and I have just enjoyed a very special two night stay at Gleneagles Hotel and it is Simply the Best Hotel we have ever stayed at. We really were looked after from the moment we arrived, all the staff smiled and they simply could not do enough to help make our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. We really felt pampered and chilled out. While my wife was having a hot stone massage in the Spa I went to the The Stillroom by Deseo and savoured a couple of drams of Cragganmore and Dalwhinnie classic malts. The Dormy Clubhouse is a must place to visit especially after a long walk. Both night we went to the bar and enjoyed a couple of cocktails before dinner. The first night we ate in Deseo Restaurant which was very informal and the food was so fresh and cooked to perfection. On our last night we dined in the Strathearn Restaurant which has some cosy tables for two in both the restaurant and conservatory. The food was divine and I have to say was very reasonably priced. We stayed in suite in Braid House overlooking the putting green and we had stunning views over Perthshire. At the end of our two day stay we both felt relaxed and we were truly sad to leave but be in no doubt we will be back to indulge ourselves in the luxurious trappings available at Gleneagles.

Room Tip: Rooms in Braid House overlooking the putting green are of a very high standard

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. There are many activities here that can either be purchased separately or as part of a package. We tried golf but there is also falconry, skeet shooting many more and the spa. All fabulous activities. There is also horseback riding and off road driving. The rooms were beautiful. We stayed in the newer rooms which have some beautiful modern amenities like heated floors in the bathrooms, remote control fireplace and remote control curtains. Just too luxurious for words. Staff were all attentive and we really felt great during our stay.

My wife and I took advantage of the "Michelin Magic" offer of dinner at Andrew Fairlie's and reduced upgrade options. We stayed in an Estate Suite - The Blair Athol - which has a view down the glen. The room was five star luxury. The bedroom had a massive bed and we used the "pillow menu" to get more supportive pillows. The bathroom had an amazing victorian shower and the suite was superb - sofas, large dining table and that view from the bay window.

The restaurant was sublime - you must try the signature Lobster. My wife's scallop starter was also a highlight. The service was attentive but unobtrusive. The wine list expensive and expansive but definitely worth the money.

The leisure facilities were good - with the outdoor hot pool a highlight. We also enjoyed 45mins learning about falconry and flying the birds.

Overall, the stay was the best so far in all the 5 star establishments we've stayed in. Wonderful. Already planning our return.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the fountain will get you that amazing view of the glens.

Fantastic large bedroom with four poster and lovely en suite though no view from room. Real five star luxury throughout the hotel including the restaurant. However my husband played golf on the Kings course and was disappointed that all the greens has been scarified so the ball did not roll properly. I joined an aqua class where it was impossible to stand in the correct height water as it was sloping - a family pool - and the regulars had pinched the only decent spots! However I had a facial in the spa which also offered a real luxury experience. This was a special Sunday night offer - a treat for us from our offspring. My only gripe was that as I did not know a spa treatment was included in the price - no paperwork identified this - they were full and I was not able to have a massage that would have been included in the price paid.

From the first until the last minute we were spoiled and pampered by all the staff.
Nothing was too much, never a no to any request.
Even my very complicated medical diet was taken care of excellently.
Anyone who had anything to do with food knew about it, breakfast or dinner.
We will be back.
Worth every £!

Once again made very welcome on our return. This time we were in one of their magnificent suites. Afternoon tea on arrival is a must, then a trip to the spa. My wife had been before but this was my first time, just perfect after a long drive. Then in the evening dinner at Andrew Fairlie, a truly great food and wine experience. Then a gift from the hotel for our anniversary.
The following evening we were booked into the Stratherne, this time service fell well below their normally excellent standard. Too busy and understaffed, a large event was going on in the ballroom! However the evening was rescued by the oustanding customer service this hotel offers. Sincere apologies were made and accepted.
I will still mark the service as 5* because the service was excellent overall.
We will return whenever possible.
