This is worth a stop and a look at if you are in the area.

Yip, it is just a pile of stones and if you want to go inside you need to be small and nibble or willing to crawl in the mud - I am neither small nor nimble and I totally would have crawled apart from it has been raining a lot recently and, well, mud.

I love old things though, and this is seriously old and in relatively good shape despite this, so I did enjoy it. There is a ring of small standing stones around the cairn, Standing stones do give me the shivers, so I was happy to see them there.

If this is your kind of thing, I recommend a trip to Kilmartin, to the south of Oban. It has spectacular cairns, standing stones and a museum as well.

The Corrimony Cairn is a fascinating piece of preserved history in an area full of it. It's off the beaten path and fairly small, so it's easy to stop for 20-30 minutes, read the sign, look at the cairn, snap a few photos and be on your way. I was glad to stop here and would recommend it to anyone in the area. A tour bus from the area stopped here so that may be an option to save some driving. The weather was fantastic for our stop and the surrounding area is quiet save for the sheep and cattle around. Keep in mind there are no facilities there.

We stopped at Corrimony Cairn in the early morning on our way to Urquhart Castle- wasn't a soul there and the mist was hanging in the fields surrounding the cairn...it was absolutely beautiful- it almost felt like we had stepped back in time as we walked around the stones and crawled through the tiny space to the center. Amazing that you can get up close and touch the rocks. Great for photographs- there is a really cool viaduct that is visible from the single track road leading to the cairns also- bonus photo ops! Great stop if you are into standing stones/cairns, photography!

It took us a while to find this but it was worth the detour. Very interesting but be warned you have to get on your hands and knees to get inside. And as others have said, there's nothing else there, just the cairn and the standing stones.
