“Four Nights In Strathpeffer”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2012

I'd visited the Bay Highland for morning coffee some years ago and I wanted to spend some time in Strathpeffer
First impressions of the public rooms were excellent traditional Highland Baronial with lots of wood panels and chandeliers. Check in was pretty good but there is a bottleneck as the lift is very small.

The room we had was very spacious clean with comfortable beds it could of done with redecoration as it looked a little tired The room was let down by the en-suite with an awful blue suite and no shower, a pair of rubber hoses were supplied but were of little use even for washing your hair

The food was okay nothing special served promptly and it was hot.

In all this could be a five star hotel if the rooms were redecorated and new showers installed throughout

Room Tip: I'd pay the extra and get a superior grade room

We receive many comments regarding the traditional wood panneling in the public areas of the Hotel, along with the chandeliers it sets the right tone for a Highland Holiday.
We are currently working towards installing showers in all bathrooms but I'm glad you found your bedroom to be clean and spacious and comfortable.

Thank you for taking time for leaving feedback.

Although the hotel is a bit tired looking the food and entertainment were excellent. This hotel is well worth the price

Required a cheap one night stay as attending a wedding. The hotel was perfectly situated close to the venue and had a very lovely frontage. I waited at reception for a while before someone attended to me. There was a staff member attending to guests buying a gift from the cabinet next to the reception desk and athough she saw me and looked at me, a quick "I'll be with you in a mo" would have gone a long way to ease my impatience at waiting. When I signed in the details on the signing form were incorrect - which was poor as they had already got my name and email address correct when confiming my booking. However the lady was very pleasant and helpful to me. The room was basic and a little out of date decor wise but it was clean, tidy and had everything I required. Definitly worth the £35.00. Unfortunately I missed breakfast (due to the wedding!!) and also I slept past the "guests out by" time - but there was no knock on my door telling me to shift and it wasnt mentioned when I booked out - I really appreciated this! All in all an I would give this hotel a decent score and certainly worth the money.

Two Couples stayed 25th 'til 28th May,2012.
Spent 3 nights at the Highland Hotel at a cost of under £100 for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast.
We've stayed several times over the years at this hotel which is part of Shearings/Bay Hotels Group. All staff were pleasant. Food was great. Bar had reasonable prices, and the rooms were very clean. Entertainment was good.
Hotel is central for touring.Fortunately the weather was a scorcher and reached 28 degrees
when we visited Ullapool. Also visited Mohamed AlFayad's coffee shop/gift shop at Falls
of Shin en route to Dornoch and it's Cathedral.

Room Tip: Choice of paying an extra supplement for a front/balcony room, with a view of the village square...

Had a 5 day break with Shearings. Flew to Inverness to join tour as could not face long coach trip from south east England -well worth the extra costs. Hotel a bit dated but very clean and comfortable room and good service from staff. Food ok with some choice but not brilliant - I suppose you get what you pay for. Clientele mainly elderly as we expected so don't expect vibrant nightlife. Tours to the Cairngorms and Ullapool very enjoyable with informative and friendly coach driver.

Thank you for letting us know you found your holiday value for money. It is a long journey from the south of England but the views in the north of Scotland are well worth the travel. Flying to Inverness certainly makes the journey alot quicker. Glad you had a nice time during your visit.

My husband and I have recently enjoyed a holiday with Shearings staying at The Highland Hotel.
My husband is a coeliac and I cannot praise the staff in the restaurant enough, for their kindness and for making sure my husband only had Gluten free food.
We were a little apprehensive before our holiday but we need not have worried.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, especially if you have a food allergy.

Room Tip: If all the rooms were like ours, then any room would be good.

Spent a weekend with a group of friends at the Highland Hotel and had a great time. Hotel is very impressive as you approach as it is a large Victorian style hotel and the interior, with wooden panelling, is striking.
Staff are very friendly and helpful and the meals, although nor large portions, were very tasty and varied.
Rooms were very clean although the beds, as reported elsewhere, are a bit lumpy . However rooms are of good size.
Entertainment was very good on both nights of our stay especially on the Friday night when Ronnie played, sang and told a few stories while interacting with those present..
There is not much to do in Strathpeffer but a trip round the Black Isle was very scenic and visit to Hugh Miller's cottage very interesting.
