Fabulous little hotel on Portree harbour

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 15, 2021via mobile
Fabulous little hotel on Portree harbour, very helpful staff, really welcoming. The beds were comfortable with lovely linen and huge towels. The breakfast was delicious, lots of choice and the porridge so yummy! Perfect location to explore the isle of Skye.

We booked for dinner with our three children. Food and service were outstanding but we would like to make a special mention of the waiting staff, in particular Peter who was extremely knowledgeable with regards to the menu and who went above and beyond to be as helpful and accommodating as possible. Such a lovely end to our holiday!

Pleasant staff who couldn't do enough for us. Friendly welcome. Room was fresh and very clean. Comfortable. Basic tea, coffee, television, bathroom essentials. No wardrobe if you needed to hang clothes. Restaurant served nice meals with great service. Nice decking area out the front overlooking the harbour. Not suitable for wheelchair users because of the old style building, which hotel would have difficulty adjusting.

The location of the hotel and the view from the rooms at the front are its main selling point.
Staff are friendly and helpful, but there is little to differentiate this hotel from (in terms of amenities available) more modestly priced B & B accommodation.

We stayed here for 5 nights, B&B, and enjoyed a double room with gorgeous views onto the harbour.
Our bed was comfortable and the facilities in the room were OK. It was clean and we had fresh towels offered daily. The room was so dated though and the hotel really needs re-decorating and freshening up. Also, the noise level of the hotel continued until 00.00 most nights. Unsure if this was from other guests or hotel staff. Our room was located above the restaurant area but this was empty after 22.00.

Our breakfast was always served quickly and food was to a good standard. It would have been better if there were more options on the breakfast menu such as yoghurt, cereal, croissants and pancakes.
The staff were friendly and always happy to help.
No parking facilities offered by the hotel but we were able to park near by every day.
Overall, nice stay but could do with improvements.

At £175 /night I wasn't expecting something like a B&B from Blackpool 30 years ago!! I guess they have some good rooms but I can only go on the room I was given, I complained and was moved to another hotel, The Portree which was great.
    Some Faults!!
No mirror in the bathroom, only mirror is on the outside of the bathroom door, 2 meters away from nearest socket so need long extension for hair dryer or tongs. Only one of the screws holding mirror on has the finished chrome cap on, this is the same mirror for makeup and shaving!!
20 holes in the wall where blinds / curtains / radiator had been, not filled in and painted over.
Random sticky backs on inside of room door, lock on inside of door faulty and was covered over with a tourism sticker.
A dozen splashback tiles around the sink and bath is the effort at modernising the bathroom, sink taps are the cheapest and don't match the bath, lock on inside of bathroom costs a £1 again previous holes not filled in.
Paint on bathroom floor and on bed post, painting not finished under sink, stains plashed on wallpaper in room.
I have stayed over 100 nights away from home this year in more that 20 different hotels and this is easily the worst room I have had and one of the most expensive.
