This is a sizable hotel which is in a superb location overlooking Portree harbour.
The reception staff were extremely efficient, welcoming and helpful. Our 1st Floor en-suite room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with an amazing view out over the harbour.
There are very good breakfast options and good and very reasonably priced evening meals are also available on site. As we visited out-of-season, evening meals are in the same room as the breakfasts are served, but there is an additional restaurant attached to the hotel which caters for evening meals during the summer months, To complete the facilities, there is a smallish bar/pub attached to the hotel building.
Due to visiting in November, parking was easily available in the street outside the hotel, though the hotel also has its own private parking available, which would be essential at busier times in the peak season.
The hotel is in a great central location in Portree, so all the benefits of this lovely little town are nearby. We can certainly recommend the Royal Hotel as a superb base for exploring this amazing island.
I have stayed once in the summer and once now in November. The rooms are spacious, clean and fairly well appointed. The food is pretty good, and not too pricey. The staff are very welcoming and can point you in the direction of any local things you want to know about. My only issue, and it is minor, was that the November stay found the room pretty cold until the radiator had been on for a few hours. The view, however, made up for that.
We had originally planned to camp on the Isle of Skye but when a storm hit & gale force winds broke our tent we had no other choice but to head into Portree and find refuge. You can imagine the ordeal we had gone through that afternoon and by the time we arrived we were soaked through to the bone, although we were thankful to find a room I did not appreciate the snobby manner of the gentleman on reception, yes we were looking a looking a bit bedraggled by this point it's true but this is no excuse for his snotty attitude which had we not been so desperate for somewhere to stay would have totally put me off taking the room, we would have simply gone elsewhere it was not a great first impression. That been said I'm very glad that we did stay once we got past the initial rather rude welcome we went up to our room and although a little dated, it was clean comfortable and most importantly nice and warm!!!! After a much needed cup of tea and a shower we headed down to the restaurant and enjoyed a lovely meal! The food was great and the restaurant staff were very very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast the next morning was also very nice and again all the staff were lovely, I cannot fault the f&b staff at all they looked after us superbly and we enjoyed our stay.
Another cold wet day on Skye made nice and warm by the reception from waitress in the dining area. Very helpful lady who tended to our needs and preferences. Can not fault the food, Haggis starter for me and Scottish cheeses for him in doors. Food is very well presented "thanks chef". Main meals arrived hot and with an assortment of vegetables. Shame there was no room left for dessert they looked fab. Good value for money and we would definitely return on our next visit to Skye. Big thanks to the lovely waitress nothing was too much bother, shame I did not get her name, on duty 12.30 07/11/2016.
Stayed at The Royal Hotel two nights while visiting Isle of Skye. Good hotel, room very basic but good, basic breakfast and very good dinner at hotel. Was pleasantly surprised with the dinner as not much was open in town when we were there , as we did not get back in town until about 7pm each night. We reluctantly went into dining room and we were very pleased with service and meal. A beautiful sunrise each morning right out front door overlooking harbor. Good value hotel
