Great hotel - let down slightly by breakfast

Review of Uig Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 11, 2021
Stopped overnight en route to Harris & Lewis. In many ways the perfect overnight place, close to ferry terminal and we had a front facing room overlooking the harbour.

Accommodation was really good - comfortable bed, refurbished bathroom, well decorated, very clean and tidy. Though we were overlooking the road, it was really quiet all night, virtually no cars at all. Staff were great as well, efficient, friendly and helpful.

Just a couple of small issues with the breakfast though. The fruit platter was ok but really quite small. The porridge was ok but ‘austere’ - accompaniments were good but the porridge itself tasted a bit last minute, water not milk. The full and veggie breakfasts were perfectly ok but had two non-runny overcooked fried eggs, and bacon that had been hanging around a while. Main thing really was the breakfast just fell a bit short on quality given we paid £170 B&B for one night.
Overall though a really decent place for a stopover.

We had stayed here previously, and were keen to return. Not only is the hotel comfortable and the breakfast very good, but the staff are excellent and care about their guests, even if they are just passing through and staying for one night. On this occasion, we stayed in the annexe, which still offered excellent views over Loch Snizort. For those travellers heading for the ferry port, it is a very short drive away, allowing a leisurely breakfast before joining the ferry queue.

There are many hotels that could learn from the welcome afforded guests here. We shall return again!

We stayed at the Uig Hotel for one night and had a lovely time. Staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Room was very spacious and clean. We had great sea views from our room. Dinner and breakfast were both really well cooked and delicious. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

We'd spent three stuffy nylon knee and elbow polishing sheeted nights elsewhere so finding that we'd booked this gem of a place by pure luck was sucha welcome relief. Parking and checkin was a breeze, the staff were excellent, location is ...well like the rest of skye...stunning. Nice touches like little guide leaflets to local spots such as fairy glen. Twin room in lodge behind main hotel was just right and unlike previous hot box it included a fan if we'd needed it. Simple honest but quality. The restaurant was another bit of luck, and matched the hotel for quality. Best mussels Z ever tasted. If you have travelled and know what good looks like at this price and location then you'll be pleasantly surprised. Absolute pleasure.

A busy hotel in this remote place. Popular with non-residents there is substantial capacity for diners. Our room was excellent with a nice view and good facilities. Unfortunately our room sat over the loudspeakers in the dining room and the bass beat of Scottish musak was unwelcome - though it was turned off when we complained. The food was good and there was plenty of choice. Would definitely return - preferably avoiding the busiest times.
