We were made most welcome on our arrival by the owners Graham and Fiona. We stayed for a week and enjoyed every minute of our visit.
We had a large room on the first floor overlooking Rothesay Bay which was spacious and comfortable with an excellent ensuite bathroom. The views over the bay were wonderful.
Cannon House Hotel is only a short walk from the ferries, stopping point for the Waverley, taxis, cinema, museum and local shops. The local bus stops are opposite the ferries and we used the buses a lot. The 490 bus ( different on Sundays) runs from the top to the bottom of the island hourly during the day and even drops you off at the Visitor Centre for Mount Stuart, and at the Ascog Fernery. There is even a small bus running to the top of Canada Hill where people used to go to catch a last glimpse of their family and friends as they departed on the boats to Canada. The next stop would be the colourful Ardencraig gardens and the mile woodland walk down to the town The bus drivers are very friendly and helpful and are proud to show off their beautiful island.
We visited a few places to eat during our stay in Rothesay but we really enjoyed returning to Cannon House Hotel for our evening meal knowing that the food and drink would be great and the ambience very friendly.
Graham and Fiona are great hosts and it was enjoyable meeting and seeing some of the local people having dinner there. Fiona makes full use of the fresh local products and produces delicious meals.
When we where out and about in Bute people would ask us where we were staying and they all spoke highly of Cannon House and it's food. There are not that many good places to eat in Rothesay so we were pleased to be at Cannon House.
.
It would be nice to be able to return soon.
