“Old, dingy, falling apart”
Reviewed 25 May 2011

This place was nice in the 90s when you could take the kids there, but now it's falling apart. The riverwalk is so uneven you have to watch every step, the paint is old and dingy, and the "pedal boats" are disgusting. The city needs to either update this place or get rid of it. Until then, stay away, not worth the time or money!!

“Just OK.”
Reviewed 13 May 2011

If you're in Memphis with a couple of hours to kill, this is an OK way to do it, I guess. You can walk across the bridge to the park and see the scale model of the Mississippi River for free, and this is the most interesting part of Mud Island. The museum is fair, but way overpriced. Skip it and save your money. There are nice views of Memphis and of the River from Mud Island, but if you're looking for the best views, take the money you saved by skipping the Mud Island Museum, and take a riverboat cruise up and down the river. Now THAT's the thing to do in Memphis!

“Mud Island - Lovely Relaxing Place”
Reviewed 7 May 2011

Mud Island is so peaceful and relaxing it is a must for Memphis visitors. There is a bridge walkway which can be very windy at times or a monorail costing about $4 return. The Island has cafe's/shops and also a museum. There are lots of seating areas and its just nice to spend the day in the sun relaxing.

“Amazing! I wish other cities had this.”
Reviewed 22 April 2011

We went on a sunny and windy day with two older children. We had an amazing time. It was the highlight of our trip. We parked on the mainland side (skipped the parking fee,) walked across the bridge (skipped the monorail,) and only played in the river (skipped the museum.) The result: a daylong, free, wonderfully fun experience that was the highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend bringing a bag to carry your shoes and wearing shorts or pants that can roll up. You *will* want to play in the water.
I read all the educational signs and learned a lot of river history, but my kids skipped them and just had fun. Thank you to the people who designed this park and made it happen.

“Best Memphis has to offer!”
Reviewed 30 October 2010

Took the grandchildren to Mud Island last week and had a wonderful time. The ride across on the tram is fun for all ages, the view of the river is something unique to this area and so impressive as is the M bridge so close, and the park was relaxing and fun for us all. We loved the museum with its riverboat to explore and the artifacts and history of the area were well presented. There was enough variety to interest the children and much about the history of the river and the Memphis area for older visitors. The children loved wading in the river model and the fact they could run around and explore without having to be quiet and still. It was all very pretty and well laid out. Educational and fun at the same time!

And then there is the Mighty Mississippi, one of the three biggest rivers in the world right there beside you all the way, with tugs and barges going up and down the river in the sunshine, the swirls and undertows and obvious power in the waters... It is a shame people come to Memphis and miss learning what is truly unique to this area in such a fun way... The park is free, the tram ride is $4 each, I think, (I had a coupon), parking at the entrance is $6. A real bargain for an afternoon's adventure!!

With more time I would have taken them down to the cobblestones so they could hear about that part of the history of the area and get closer to the river. Then we could have gone to the Peabody Hotel to see the ducks in the fountain... Well, next time...
