“Great get-away-from-it-all break. STUNNING PLACE”
Reviewed March 24, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We are a young couple in our late 20s. We have just returned from our 3rd stay at Nant Yr Onnen, the second time staying in the barn. We have been here for a romantic escape the first time (cabin), with friends the second, and the latest trip was with my parents. Everyone who we have brought here has loved it, It is beautiful if you want to fully unwind without the hassles of day-to-Day life. This year we found that the Eco-friendly hot tub which has now been built makes this place even more of a treat- on top of all that, it is great value for money.

This place never fails to amaze us, we always leave feeling 100% relaxed and content. We love to completely disconnect from life and mobile phones, tv etc. The fresh air, walking, quietness and beauty of this area is enough, helped along by the beauty of the barn. It feels like home. The way it has been put together with natural elements like wooden handles on the cupboards and stone flooring add to the natural feel.

Downstairs there are three simple bedrooms and a beautiful wet room-bathroom. There is a washing macheine and dryer which is great if you go out on a rainy walk.

Upstairs, the open plan living room/kitchen looks over the fields and valley beyond. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils for cooking, perfectly serviceable for simple cooking, and in the living room there is an abundance of game to occupy the evening. The wood burner keeps the whole of the upstairs warm. Perfect to curl up infront of with a goood book.

Tips:
- take slippers and socks for use around the barn as there is stone flooring on the ground floor, which does get cold. Wales is not known for its hot weather after all!
- The Royal Oak pub does some really nice food, have not had a bad meal there yet. They also have Wi-Fi for customer use.
- there are beautiful walks for all kinds of levels of fitness. The nearby reservoir is stunning.
-hot tub is beautiful at night under the stars. Take flip-flops and possibly a bath robe if you plan on using it.

“Fantastically quiet getaway surrounded by fields, fells & forestry!”
Reviewed March 21, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We've just returned from an absolutely wonderful time staying in the barn at Nant yr Onnen. The barn itself is an old cow byre beautifully converted into an upside-down hillside retreat. Even though the weather wasn't really on our side for our stay the views are still stunning. Looking out from the balcony you can see a fantastic variety of landscapes including wild fells (managed by sheep!), agricultural land, managed woodlands and wild forests.

The wood burner in the property is gorgeous, efficient and fantastic fun to tend (so much fun I think we may have used rather a lot of wood - Sorry!) Once properly lit it heats the barn up brilliantly well and having such thick stone walls it keeps the heat for ages.

The barn has been fitted with a lot of mod cons, too, not least of which is the massive sunken bath which was blissful to sink into at the end of the day. There's also a dishwasher, washing machine & tumble dryer, handy for longer stays or bigger families - The barn can easily sleep a family of 6 to 8 - we felt almost guilty having the place to ourselves as a couple (Not for very long though!). The built in oven is fantastic, heating up really fast (a Godsend when a day adventuring over fells sees you arriving back to the barn starving hungry!).

There are loads of things to do when you do want to venture out of the barn, too - at first it can seem like it is in the middle of no-where but actually it's ideally situated for a whole host of things that Fiona will tell you about when you check in if you ask!

Fiona was a fantastic host, making sure we had everything we needed and showing us various places of interest in the area on the OS map before leaving us to our own devices.

In summary our stay at Nant yr Onnen was exactly the right mix of quiet retreat and adventuring holiday we were after. We definitely want to return in different seasons to see how things change and would even consider the barn as a place to come with friends.

Thankyou, Fiona for a fantastic holiday from both of us :)

“A rural retreat!”
Reviewed March 15, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

We had a lovely holiday, the barn has beautiful views from all directions. We loved watching the frogs in the pond and wandering round the grounds, playing in the stream and, listening to the birds.. We walked to the local pub and had a great evening. There is lots to do locally, walks from the door, RSPB bird reserve, the dam, and our son loved Llandovery swimming pool! Carmarthen is about an hours drive away if you want town life - our son loves the ten pin bowling alley! It was a great half term break.

“Absolutely brilliant, we have been back 6 times”
Reviewed March 13, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

Normally we like variety but the barn draws us back again and again, most beautiful views out of every of the many windows, its like living outside inside in great luxury. The interior design is stunning, beautiful and unusual things everywhere. It is cosy warm and spacious. The huge sunken bath is greatly appreciated by my son in particular. Best of all is the newly installed hot tub. Away from the city where the stars are still stars sitting not just in hot water but hot water that is heated by real wood is just amazing beyond words!

“A perfect stay in every way!”
Reviewed March 10, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

My husband and I came with our 10 month old baby to stay with friends over New Year. It was our second stay (our first being during a summer a couple of years before) and it was just as relaxing, if not more so because of the fantastic addition of the wood fired hot tub!!! I couldn't have imagined a more perfect way to see in the new year... champagne in hand, sitting back in the hot tub and looking up at the beautiful night sky (with no light pollution around the stars were amazing). The barn itself is beautifully finished, very well equipped and the main living area is brilliantly spacious for a large group (with babies and children too!) Yet it still manages to be super cosy (even when almost freezing outside) with the help of the gorgeous wood-burner and large L-shaped sofa. In fact it was so cosy that we hardly left the barn the entire stay as we were able to enjoy the stunning scenery from the comfort of the sofa! Next time though we will get out to enjoy some of the fantastic local walks and try out the local pub which is said to be good. All in all another excellent break. As ever, Fiona and Tim were on hand whenever we had any questions but kept a polite distance. We look forward to our next visit!

it was lovely to have you staying over the New Year and a delight to have you as the first guests to use the new outdoor hot tub. Glad the incessant rain didn't spoil your enjoyment!

“Great location and fantastic living space to relax in with a group of people.”
Reviewed November 18, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Great service, all needed items were present in the barn from cooking utensils, towels, bedding and firewood. It was ideal to arrive with a group of people and be able to comfortably spend a great weekend in Wales.
The facilities were perfect for cooking, relaxing by the fire, and delightful scenery to go for a good long walk. The immediate surroundings provide a space to go for a short walk along the stream, play on the swing and try out the zip line...
Loved the communal space with a very efficient and cozy wood burner to add to the ambient atmosphere. Downstairs is somewhat less warm unless the underfloor heating is in use.
Overall highly recommend this holiday rental!

“Beautiful seclusion with rustic luxury”
Reviewed November 18, 2013 for a stay in November 2013

We would definitely recommend a stay in the Barn , all the comforts of home and more! The accommodation has been lovingly renovated and is beautifully decorated. The owners , Tim and Fiona , are very environmentally conscientious and have made the Barn fit the landscape perfectly. The surrounding countryside is as beautiful as any national park with plenty of walking opportunities. The local people are exceptionally friendly and we were made to feel at home in both the pubs we visited!
We are already planning our next visit and want to experience all the seasons there.
