Beautiful location surrounded in great walking countryside.
We were expecting 3 bathrooms and there are only 2. There's a downstairs toilet with wash basin that is handy , but it is not a bathroom. The additional descriptions does mention 2 and a half bathrooms. When we arrived there was no hot water, the storage immersion heater had not been switched on the night before. The day boost water heater did not work. We had to wait for hot water until the next day. I contacted the owner and he responded straight away, so it was well supported if you needed help. The bottom line is that we enjoyed our stay and holiday. Would thoroughly recommend Caffi Gwynant just down the road.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Glyn Awel. We were a party of four adults and five children and the house was just perfect. To wake up to views of Snowdon and to watch the sun go down over the mountain whilst enjoying a g’n’t on the terrace was a real treat. It was great to all be able to sit comfortably round the kitchen table and to play games in the lounge. Although the Watkin path was within a few hundred metres of the house we decided to climb Snowdon via the Rhys Ddu path as felt it was more suitable for our party. Wow it was amazing! What a fabulous experience. We were very lucky with the weather so had superb views and enjoyed clear blue skies and walking above the clouds. We also loved swimming in the crystal waterfall pools off the Watkin Path, a visit to Beddgelert, zip wiring and a takeaway curry from Lamberis. Thank you for letting us stay in your home.
Every box ticked for a mountain based holiday location. The house is very spacious and perfect for a family/friends gathering with a large country kitchen as the centrepiece. Oh, to be back sitting in the rocking chair staring out at the beautiful view of the mountain and river below. After a day exploring the endless wilderness that is Snowdonia what could be better than sitting by the log burner and reflecting on the perfect retreat that Glyn Awel is. Plenty for children and adults to do with the table tennis table and darts being popular. We as a family of 13 are already planning a return visit. Thank you Nia & John.
800m from the start of Watkins walk up to the top of Snowdon and a lovely cafe. 4 miles from the picturesque village of Beddgelert this is the perfect base for everything Snowdon has to offer. Comfortable beds, large kitchen diner and a large lounge there was plenty of space for our party of 9. We plan to visit again.
The cottage is brilliant, in a perfect location for all the nearby attractions and villages, with lovely views of the mountains. Very easy to get to the steam trains which are highly recommended for a day out. The owner provides good instructions for your arrival and further information is available in the cottage. She also rings up to check if you are happy ( a very lovely and friendly person to talk to). The best feature of the cottage is the kitchen/diner which is large enough for all to gather round for meals etc. We found ourselves using this room the most. We had almost constant rain but found that due to the perfect location we were still able to take advantage of the attractions nearby and had a great time. This area of Wales has some of the most spectacular views over valleys and mountains easily rivalling the lake district for beauty. The cottage and location makes for a great holiday and is highly recommended.
This review is a tricky one. I was torn between a 3 Star and a 5 Star. We stayed here for 9 nights as a party of 10 with 4 small children.
Positives: truly amazing location; a few minute drive to Pen-y-pass or 15 minute walk past amazing waterfalls to the Watkin Path. Beautiful looking house; stunning old cottages converted into one house with gardens that raise higher and higher so that by the top the view is breathtaking. really spacious house with all amenities you could possibly need; modern showers, extremely large dining table, WiFi, outdoor seating (I could go on forever).
Negatives: the beds! A previous reviewer has mentioned the beds and I wonder why they have not been replaced. Almost every bed creaks to the point that when one person moves even a little the noise wakes up both partners. Each time my sister moved it woke up her 6 month old baby. On top of the noise the beds are the most uncomfortable I've ever come across. Even the 3 & 5 year olds would come into our room as their beds were literally like lying on a block of wood. It seems like a small thing to complain about but 7 out of the 10 of us were exhausted by the end of the stay as we hadn't had a half decent nights sleep in over a week. My second negative relates to the very musty living room. It's an old house and the heating never needed to be on which maybe doesn't help but the living room was not a comfortable place to sit due to the damp musty smell.
In conclusion this place has everything going for it. Just replace the beds!
