Description: At The Proper Gander we pride ourselves on serving the very best in local Welsh produce alongside friendly customer service and a relaxed atmosphere. Located in a stunning area of rural mid Wales, our menu reflects the freshness, quality and variety of our landscape. For example: Our Welsh lamb, beef and pork are from local farms. Our fresh fish and seafood are caught by resident fishermen off our beautiful coastline. We serve only the best Award Winning Welsh cheeses. We offer a wide selection of beers, ciders, ales and spirits sourced from our unique local breweries and distilleries. And of course, all our fantastic dishes are created and prepared by our very own Welsh Chef.

I feel I have to put something on Trip advisor to say what a wonderful meal we had on Friday evening. There were three of us and it started with a wonderful choice of Welsh Gin to go with our tonic downstairs in the wine bar area. Hayley the waitress was very informed and helpful.
We were then taken up to our table after a 25 minute wait whilst our food was being freshly prepared.
I had the Aubergine Parmigiano accompanied by the fish of the day which could have been either Hake, Trout or Lemon Sole. I chose Hake and so glad I did it was a big chunk of wonderfully cooked moist Hake, so along with the beautiful Aubergine it was just delicious.
My sister had the lemon sole with dauphinois potatoes and samphire and green beans another delight. My friend had a 10 oz Rib eye cooked to perfection.
This was then followed by home made sticky toffee pudding which was light and gorgeous and had a lemon roulade again just delicious.
A good bottle of red merlot and the wonderful service it was a meal to remember and I will certainly go back again and again.
Ashleigh and her team are just great - well done team !!

A party of six of us very much enjoyed this stylish restaurant, which was surprisingly good. Note that the restaurant is on the first floor with a wine bar on the ground floor. For starters we had: local crab, mushroom soup, garlic mushrooms, melon and Parma ham - all deliciously tasty, well prepared and presented. Great start followed by some serious main courses: lamb steaks wrapped in bacon, fillets of sea bass with salad and vegetables and pork wrapped in bacon with leeks. Everyone felt the quality of the cooking was very high and the portions generous. Only two could manage a dessert - the cheesecake and pavlova were very good. An unusual name attracts attention, but the food demands a return visit!

Visited twice whilst on holiday, not the usual seaside restaurant, very enjoyable, good service in a a very pleasant atmosphere. Reasonable prices.
On our first my wife had dressed crab and I had plaice which was perfectly filleted not one bone :-)
On our second visit we both had the sirloin steak which was probably the the best steaks we have ever had. We would highly recommend the Proper Gander.
