Hacienda San Pancho was over-advertised. We would rate it at 3 or 3.5. It was comfortable and convenient but much of what we believed to be available was not.
The Hacienda is a beautiful complex nested in the jungle along the pacific coast. It is also a ghost town. We rarely saw guests on the premises and only learned later that legal issues were limiting money for updates and repairs at the resort. We suspect this may have impacted tourism. Lacking income from rentals, we were told that only damage to dwellings and facilities are being repaired. Minor problems are ignored.
The condo is large. The furniture is well made, but basic. There was no art on the walls, or anything decorative, or ethnic, that would suggest we were in Mexico. WiFi does exist, but not in the condo. Visitors will need to walk down to the hotel lobby, which is a different building, about 150 meters distant, to connect. That wasn’t a huge problem but it was annoying. We learned upon arrival that our price did not include maid service, which was a surprise. Again, not a huge problem but it would have been good to know in advance. The infinity pool advertised, was open. It’s a beautiful recreational area, but the bar and fitness center, also advertised, are closed- no explanation. There was no potable water at the condo, which is significant. Without drinking water you have a problem. To fix that, we had to locate and purchase 5 gallon bottles and rig a pump - no small effort. The washer and dryer, advertised, were on site, but the power supply was inadequate to make them operate. To do laundry, we were forced to locate a local lavandria, which turned out to be another adventure. Immediately after opening the front door, we could smell mildew. We found evidence of water and mold in the utility room, and the kitchen cabinet, across the wall. Leaving doors open and fans blowing alleviated this issue, but allergy suffers should be aware. Eight dining room chairs had vinyl covers that were flaking off. The flaking was so bad we could not sit in those chairs. The owner did not provide supplemental information- basic stuff such as contact information, or directions to the condo. We are not new to Mexico but this is the first time an owner has not provided us with a considerable amount of commercial information.
The condo is secure and quiet. There was plenty of parking out front. It’s an easy walk into San Pancho and the town is small and intimate with beautiful beaches, excellent weather, restaurants and great people. The maid and her husband were responsive to our needs and would help over the phone or in person when necessary. The owner was responsive and when pressed, explained the deficiencies we observed. We enjoyed our stay at Hacienda San Pancho but it was our first visit to this town, so our expectations were flexible. Our condo had great potential and if owners synchronized their claims to reality, and offered more information, it could be much better.
