the house was nice went we arrived, we stay on the pool as we arrived. and we didn't notice the dirty areas after we settle inside the house. the lamps had spiders webs. every corner we saw was filthy. the the dishes with sand, i know coming from California from a clean house i have, i do expect cleanliness, my kids and i starting seen geckos on the walls, i was not going to be happy in the house. so i spoke to sherry about the problems around the house, i was paying $1600 dollars for the week. i told her i was not going to stay that i'm sorry, but my kids and are not comfortable staying like that, with geckos inside the house, spiders allover. sherry said that not one had complain about the situation of the house. well those people who stayed there before are not like me. my father lives in ruiz nayarit mx, he doesn't have any bugs in the house. so i told sherry to give me $700 dollars back from all the money i gave them, she did, so i left the next day. i couldn't sleep and my kids either, we had a bad night. i spend $900 for just 1 night. it was horrible. i do not recommend this place at all. also it was very expensive, but i stay there because my kids wanted to stay on a place like this with a nice pool access to the beach. we left to stay in puerto vallarta it was amazing hotel great prices and very clean, next time i will stay at the holiday inn the best hotel in puerto vallarta.
We visited Casa Fortuna in Feb 2018. It far surpassed our expectations. We are a family of 7 adults. The house was perfect offering many places to gather as a group or the ability to find a quiet spot to get away. The house is very beautiful and sits right on a swimable clean beach. You can walk to La Penita town in 5 minutes. Sandy and Rick are amazing caretakers of the property! I hired Sandy to cook for our family. Her meals were outstanding! We were in culinary heaven. Everyone in our group from 22 to 52 had a fantastic time. Sandy ensured anything we needed was provided from grocery shopping to arranging a fishing trip! We preferred our stay here and our ability to discover Mexico far better than 5 star resorts we have stayed in many times. Thank you for sharing your home with us... We had the best vacation! Everything was perfect! Carmel and Chris and family from Vancouver BC
What a gorgeous property!! Great stay, Sandi and Rick made our stay comfortable and relaxed. Sandi, cooked very delicious meals for us at very reasonable price. She answered all our questions regarding to restaurants, excursions and she even called the combi for us. She is very helpful and her English was great!!. Honestly, I didn't expect the road to the house. But, I also learned not judge the cover by its cover. We sure enjoyed all the local Mexican people, they are very friendly and hospitable. We even got invited to an engagement party across the street. Rick, sure keeps the property clean and the pool is his pride and joy. It is in immaculate condition and warm. We sure loved diving in after the beach. I totally recommend this property.
I cannot say enough good things about Casa Fortuna. Every detail from the airport pickups, to meals, to activates, to reservations were flawless.
We rented Casa Fortuna for a vacation between two families (7 people in total). The house was amazing with an authentic hacienda feel. The ocean was steps away and of course the gorgeous pool and backyard were right at our fingertips.
The caretakers, Sandi and Rick, were incredible. We paid Said an incredibly reasonable rate to cook dinner for us each night. We loved having authentic Mexican dishes and being able to eat under the twinkling lights of the garden rather than going out to a restaurant. On the one night we did venture into the town Sandi and Rick arranged reservations and transportation for us which was a huge help.
With Sandi’s help we booked jet skis, had massages facials and manicures at the house, and even arranged a day trip visit to the mangroves of San Blas an hour or so away. They sweetly arranged for us to have a traditional Mexican New Year’s celebration by getting us a piñata to break at midnight!
The town is very small but friendly. We ventured in for the Thursday markets and of course for some lunchtime tacos. There are grocery stores and pharmacies that have anything you could ever need, but Sandi was wonderful about letting us give her a list of things we wanted from the store/pharmacy and she would happily get them.
The internet was strong for when we occasionally wanted to check a few emails but the majority of the time we were laying out relaxing on the beach or poolside.
Before booking I contacted the owners to ask several questions and their responses were prompt and complete. My family and I were looking for an authentic Mexico getaway far away from tourists and any “Cancun” type vibes. We were able to help a local fisherman pull in his nets, meet local artisans, and eat some amazing food all within a short walk from the house. Casa Fortuna was the perfect home for us.
Honestly we have no complaints and can’t wait for our next trip to Casa Fortuna. If you’re looking for an authentic Mexican getaway far from the crowds this is for you!
Thank you again to Sherry, Doreen, Rick and Sandi!
Everything about Casa Fortuna was fantastic–from its location and view to the help, food and friendliness from Sandi and Rick every day. Everything is within reach at the villa: town is a 20min walk away and really pleasant for a wander; the beach (fishing, jetskis, boat tours etc) is yours, usually to yourselves; and the building itself is perfectly geared to large groups. The bedrooms were dreamy, pool perfect, kitchen well-stocked and lounge area great for catching up with friends and family. Couldn't recommend the place more.
