Lovely place right on Pittwater road which is easy to park. Great menu, very Australian with amazing fish and meat. Lovely compositions and great wines. Service was quick and with a smile. Perfect go to for an uncomplicated, wonderful diner.

What a wonderful surprise to have a local restaurant in Manly that is fabulous! As a interstate visitor to Manly regularly, i was so pleased to see a great restaurant like The Herring Room.

The food is absolutely delicious, they have a great selection of wines, the service is attentive and fantastic!

I enjoyed every mouthful - I started with steak tartar followed by kingfish caribbean curry all washed down with organic red wine followed by a orange and almond cake!

A wonderful menu with lots of seafood choices that are divine! All 4 of us were too busy eating and making noises enjoying our meals. We had chosen seafood dishes for our main courses and glad we all did because they were just amazing! The seafood is just divine, so fresh, the flavours are beautiful and compliments the seafood so well. Well done Chef!

As I am gluten and dairy free - they were very accommodating with my dietary requirements which I really appreciate. I have to say that their orange and almond cake which is gluten and dairy free was the best I have had and im not always a fan of orange and almond cake because for a gf and df person its known to be a bit boring. But it wasnt boring, it was amazingly good!

Im looking forward to visiting these guys again. :)

This is a family-run restaurant. It shows in the great service and friendly approach to customers. Repeat customers are recognised and made welcome as if they are part of the family. The food is excellent. They have an extensive wine list of great wines.

Manly’s new seafood bistro (their description not mine) is set away from the bustling seaside roads and eateries. We almost thought we’d got lost but eventually found it tucked away behind a petrol station half way down Pittwater Road.

The interior was packed and tastefully decorated, though it was stifling (in February) and no outside tables were on offer. We hadn’t booked but were lucky enough to find a table shortly after we arrived at 20.30 (it’s better to book, especially at weekends), though we had to wait 10 minutes and did so sipping two fabulous cocktails - the lavender capriosca and salted caramel espresso martini. Both were refreshing, innovative and superb.

So far so good.

The reason for choosing the Herring Room over Garfish was the menu which looked more varied and interesting and which caters for a wide range of diets including gluten-free and vegetarian, though it offers primarily seafood. We selected tom kha gai Port Lincoln SA mussels and the bugs with oil, lemon juice and garlic for starters, followed by pan-fried coral trout and the chargrilled WA scampi, washed down with an organic Momo New Zealand sauvignon blanc.

The bugs were disappointingly soggy and didn’t taste fresh (certainly no way near as good as those we’d had the previous night at a Sydney restaurant). The soup was salty and lacked the subtle Thai flavours we were expecting. As for the mussels, they were overcooked and hence somewhat chewy. The fish main was very good, fresh, well cooked, well flavoured and balanced, and the macadamia nuts worked a treat. The scampi (a measly duo—why not have three, if only for visual effect?) on the other hand were again soggy and un-fresh-tasting and the risotto although tasty was too al dente and contained lumps of hard rice.

A promising start that dissolved into a disappointing and salty (just over A$240) ending. Perhaps we should have gone to Garfish.

Hubby and I are relatively frequent diners at the Herring room. We keep coming back because of the great food and the awesome service we receive. It has been our go to place for intimate dinners, dinners with friends and family celebrations with 10 - 12. Some of our friends have admitted that they snuck back with other friends!!! Cause they wanted to share the experience. Love their wine list, cocktails as well or that you can bring a bottle or two of your own.
