I booked this for a new years eve dinner thinking they would have something until midnight (being New Years) - only to find out they would close before midnight.

However we had already paid a deposit so couldn't back out. The venue itself is very beautiful and the live entertainment was okay. However for the amount of money we spent on the food was very disappointing.

Had read the reviews, and nearly did not go. That would have been a mistake, finished up having a great time , service is great, staff a delight, food well above average, rooms are very clean, as is the rest of the guest house. The entertainment is easy ,and free, all afternoon and evening. The people we met during our stay is what this place is really about. So to all the complainers , this is not the ritz, this is a guest house , and these people really try hard,so before you knock it , think about it.

Room Tip: Rear Rooms Attached to the Car Park are Quite

Just spent a great weekend in Halls Gap. The Mountain Grand is one of a kind, a most relaxing and pleasant place in which to spend a few days, the food is good (gluten free menus available), but don't expect a 24 hour hotel-like service. Friendly and helpful staff and the complete opposite of the chain hotel experience. Recommended. Andy & Ann

We have just returned from 3 nights at the Mountain Grand Guest House and we were pleasently surprised. After reading some of the reviews We were a little worried, BUT, it was a really pleasent stay and we are already trying to plan a return trip ! It is not a 5 star hotel, with fancy hotel rooms with TV's etc. It is an old historic guest house that has been renovated to add ensuites to each room. There are two large lounge rooms with large screen TV,s. Our room was small but very comfortable and we had a beautiful view of the Grampians from our window and lovely patio area.
The package that we had included breakfast and a 2 course dinner . The restaurant was great and the menu extensive. Food was excellent ! My husband is Gluten intollerent and for once he had no problem, Don made sure he was well provided for, more to choose from than most places. Great Value and for a really nice experience for couples or groups of friends wanting a relaxing getaway, value for money with the food included package I would recommend the Mountain Grand Guest House. Don was extreamly nice and could not do enough for us while we were there. We will be back ! A great place to stay in the Grampians.

Room Tip: Loved the view of the mountain. Get a package including dinner bed and breakfast, you won't be s...

We recently spent two nights at the Mountain Grand and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This was our third stay at the Hotel and we were impressed by the improvements that had been made to the building since our last stay. For those requiring flash boutique hotel-type accommodation, this is not your spot. However, should you require an old Guest house style experience, then you could not do better. When we were there recently, there was a large function on in town and we did not have the live music on Saturday evening, however the recorded music that was playing was of a fantatstic standard, featuring many lovely tunes from the fifties and earler. We intend to return to the Mountain Grand in the future, and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who wishes to return to the more gracious and sedate style of weekends away. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This is one of country Victoria’s last remaining traditional Guesthouses, now refurbished into a very comfortable small hotel in the heart of Halls Gap. With its balconies and unique facade, the Mountain Grand is a delightful place to call home after a big day exploring the Grampians. "The Balconies" Restaurant & "Cafe Grand" are so popular, especially on Saturday nights with mellow 30s to 80s live music - "the best music of all time" performed by a selected rotating parade of professional musicians. There are seven small & cozy guest bedrooms with fresh decor and en-suite bathrooms - 3 large rooms, some with spas. No pretentious 5 star luxury, just homely 3.5 star country comfort with wood fire sitting rooms, big screen TVs and club/cocktail bar. The whole property has WiFi. Full breakfasts and 3 course dinners are included in the tariff. Dinners are 3 courses of full choice of menu. Guests with special dietary needs are looked after by our caring chef. Breakfasts comprise an extensive buffet followed by individually cooked offerings. All are enjoyed in our restaurant "The Balconies" and the "Cafe Grand." The Indulgence Getaway also includes gourmet picnic lunches which are extremely popular for bushwalkers who are going to be in the mountains all day. On their return they are treated to our Chef's freshly baked afternoon teas. Guests will be well looked after by our friendly staff & will find enjoyment (to add to the dining experience) relaxing in the various lounge areas with service from the licensed club bar. ... more   less
