“NOT WORTH IT”
Reviewed 8 April 2012

Stayed recently, bedroom with ensuite was overpriced, bouncers and bar staff were pushy and rude. The hotel relies to much on its location and scenery to get by but this is not enough. Will not be stayin there again.

The rooms are old, no toilet or basin, saturday nights the hotel is a nightclub so you can hear all the music up stairs as if you were in the night club. The beds were uncomfortable and there is no air conditioning. I've slept in some cheap hotels before and not complained but for the price you pay I expected a lot more.

We paid extra and got a room with the lounge and ensuite. Not cheap. The biggest disappoinment with this historic hotel is that it seems now to be designed purely to get large numbers of customers in for a meal and get them out again. There is food seating for hundreds but yet there is almost nothing in the way of comfortable bars lounges to have drinks and look out to the wonderful vista of the bay . The vacuuming of the accommodation corridors starts at 7am which is a bit rude. The breakfast buffet was very good.

Room Tip: If you want an ensuite then you need to pay extra.

Short stay here during January with the family, weekend break from Melbourne. For the rates which we got you cant really complain, the room was clean, and location was very good. Buffet breakfast is excellent value and perfect way to start the day with the fantastic views overlooking the beach, Golf was just up the road within walking distance, perfect for what we needed.

I stayed on Saturday night. I was amazed when I entered the room to find no bathroom, not even a sink in the room! Tea and coffee was provided in the room and I can only assume that if you actually wanted to use it that you would have to go to the shared bathroom to fill the kettle! No air conditioning, a note on the bed saying that you will be fined $40 for using more bedding than reasonable for the number of people staying. Very poor locks on the doors, a guest in the next door room opened the door of our room at about 3am. My friends who were in another room also reported that somebody tried to open their door during night. Only one of the 6 communal showers had a door that could be locked.
At $170 per night including breakfast this place is seriously overpriced for a room lacking even basic things such as a toilet, shower and air conditioning. The only saving grace was a magnificent breakfast.

We completely loved our stay at the Portsea hotel. Unfortunately I got a bee sting on day 1 when we were in Sorrento and am allergic. The minute we got back housekeeping literally took care of me- the provided ice packs, checked my temperature and even checked in on me to see they I was still alive. During our stay there was a wedding and we were aware that we had to change rooms, and once again housekeeping took care of everyting- we packed our bags and they moved them for us. Breakfast buffet each morning was great, especially eating it outside overlooking the beach. We dinned in for dinner once and the food was ok, I did have high expectation tho. This hotel is excellent and I reccommend that you stay there mid week as there is either a wedding with music or live music- unless you are into that, which we are so it was great!!

Room Tip: 1. Accommodation is upstairs so if you don't like them don't stay there. 2. If you don'...
