We were very happy with the resort and amenities. The on site restaurants offer kids 8 and under eat free with paying adult for breakfast and dinner. We didn’t make it to the water park which was a bummer. The only negative we found was the beds.

I was hesitant about our stay at the Wilderness because of the mediocre reviews. It wasn’t as bad as I had expected but also not a place that I’ll be returning to. Check-in was relatively quick and policies were clearly explained. The room was huge with a high ceiling, large balcony, and a cute cabin theme. There was even a little kitchen area with cook stove, microwave, and refrigerator.
The room was basically clean. Other than needing a good dusting. I checked the beds for creepy crawlies and was pleased to find both mattress and box spring were encased in a cover.
The lighting was poor. Walls were thin. I could hear accelerating traffic from one direction, voices from another direction, and stomping feet from overhead- pretty much non stop except during quiet hours. Know that because this hotel is basically a water park, there are many children. Not a big deal- just be aware.
In the morning we were disturbed by housekeeping ramming on everyone’s doors. This and other details give the Wilderness a “Super 8 motel atmosphere”.There are a gazillion housekeeping staff in the hallways and not a one makes eye contact or greets patrons. Not only are there staff everywhere, I’ve never seen such a hoard of people in one place. Once again, not a big deal- just something to consider.
All in all, if you have young children, I’d say it’s a good weekend get away. Otherwise, it’s not a place to just stay, like us, if you’ve got an event at the conference center.
Don’t set your standards high, and know it’s just a place to lay your head.

We've stayed with Wilderness before and had a positive experience. Food was a little pricey and nothing fabulous but the kids liked it. This year, however, was a different story. Apparently now they sell day passes for the indoor waterpark and open it to the public. It was so overcrowded we could not enjoy the park and even ended up cutting our trip short. This is not a cheap place to stay and with the pricing amenities should be guest exclusive. We most likely will not be visiting again or recommending the resort.

I always enjoy our stay at Wilderness at the Smokies. The room rate was reasonable but when I arrived my room was $40 more than what I expected. No big deal as the rate was still lower than normal. The hot tub was full of small children, I love kids but I believe the rule is no children under 6. It would be nice if that was enforced. The highlight of the trip was the wonderful service and friendly bar staff at Firefly bar and grill. Tory, Morgan and Ciera were the best ever, strong drinks served with a smile. You can't beat that.

We stayed for one night and almost didn’t even stay. The room had a very strong seafood smell and the bathroom lights flickers on and off. It felt very dirty and uncomfortable.
I recently found out we were not suppose to be in a room with an ozone generator/air purifier on and when we were there they had one running in our room. I didn’t even know how dangerous those thing are so I didn’t turn it off because the room smelled.
My fault for not complaining but we were just staying for a night so I was just hoping the night would hurry and pass so we can leave.
The hallways also smell but the staff at check in and the shuttle bus drivers were nice. The kids enjoyed the indoor waterpark but thats not enough to bring us back. First impressions make a long lasting impression so I won’t ever recommend this hotel to anyone.
