We were specifically looking for a rental property rather than a hotel/motel to accommodate our group all in one location. We also wanted to avoid the hustle/bustle of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, which have become very "touristy" and packed. This location was about 18 miles from Pigeon Forge and 25 miles from Gatlinburg, which was close enough to do things during the day but allowed us to stay in the quieter small mountain town of Townsend. Townsend had all the amenities we needed, including several gas stations, a grocery store, and a dollar store.
Based upon information from the owners, it sounded like the cabin was once part of a larger resort that had broken up and had cabins sold separately. This cabin was one of the smaller ones located closer to the road and at the lower end of the small mountain. There was a bit of a view from the cabin, but it was a very wooded area and this view would be mostly blocked in the warmer months.
The owners were very courteous and flexible with our group. Our group size was larger than they would typically put in a rental of this size, but they worked with us to make the situation work. We found enough blankets and pillows for our group size and they even added additional dishware and toiletries to serve our group. Their hospitality went above our expectations.
The owners also indicated to us that this cabin was recently renovated, and their efforts really showed. We were all impressed by the rustic feel of the cabin. The gas fireplace and balcony hot tub were also great touches that made our stay more enjoyable.
