In 1859, bedrooms didn't have attached bathrooms, so when rooms from that era become hotel rooms, you have to make a choice about how to provide bathroom facilities. I really hate the choice made by this hotel for SOME of its rooms.

I stayed in the Marcella room (one of the "original" rooms). It has a toilet in one corner, separated from the rest of the room only by an old louvered room divider. The tub/shower is in another corner about 2 feet from the foot of the bed. There is a shower curtain on a rod suspended from the ceiling, but nothing separates the tub from the rest of the room.

The clawfoot tub has charm, but it could use a reglazing. I don't doubt that it had been scrubbed clean, but its interior was beat up, so it was impossible to know for sure. So a relaxing bath was not an option for me. Instead, I showered and ended up standing in a lot of water because the drain was slow.

NOT all guest rooms are like this, so you CAN avoid this problem, but I think the hotel would be better off not offering rooms like this at all, even as a last choice. This is a historical property, so I know that there are huge limitations on making changes, but surely there's a clever architect who could design something better. Something, maybe even a bedroom, would have to be sacrificed to make space for a real bathroom, but if you turned two bedrooms that don't have bathrooms into one amazing suite with a real bathroom, or something like that, I would think you could make up for lost revenue.

The transom window over the door was charming but it let in a ton of light, so if you like to sleep in a dark room, you are out of luck.

The property as a whole was neat. The staff seemed nice. But some of the rooms seem like they would be better in a museum than as hotel guest rooms.

In town for a graduation we wanted to be near downtown instead in an interstate hotel. This is the only option I could find for walking distance to downtown. And it is perfect for that. We stayed in one of collections of "cottage" style rooms; king bed, shower, no tub, spacious enough. I am not aware of any typical hotel style rooms on this property. There was a lot of construction around the tavern, restaurant and common areas which will be attractive improvements. The restaurant was closed during our stay. Overall a pleasant stay, perfect location, clean, with only one disturbance. Neighbors were partying well past midnight around the hot tub.

I originally booked a cottage online at Ye Kendell Inn and was contacted by phone that the cottage I booked was already booked. Wanting a king-size bed, they re-booked us in the only one available; Hillcountry 1. When my husband and I arrived at 5:30p to check in, we were led to the room out back and up the stairs. At first, the young man who was leading the way helping with luggage, opened up Hillcountry 2, and as we entered, the room furniture was all covered in white drop cloths. We looked at the other end for our room and found it with a large and heavy bench pulled onto stoop in front of door. Once we pulled the bench away and unlocked the door to enter, the room was completely dissheveled; bed unmade, towels on floor and coffee cups with mold growing still on nightstand. It was apparent the room hadn't been serviced in a while. The young man who was helping with luggage jumped into action saying he would have this room made up quickly for us. My husband and I had no choice but to give them time to do that as we left the room to go grab dinner. As we walked back through the lobby, the young man had already notified the manager what happened and instead of going to make us wait for the room to be freshened, he promptly put us up in a newly renovated room across the street at the William Hotel. There we had an excellent night sleep in the lovely room with a very comfortable mattress and a common room where guests can grab beverages and snacks. My rating on this is 'very good' because of the way the staff handled the disappointment, and because we understand the ownership recently changed and things happen. Our experience this time gave us a chance to try a hotel we didn't know about (The William) and will not deter us from trying Ye Kendell Inn when the Reno is completed.

Kb Barnett,
Thank You So Much for great review !! Thank You So MUCH FOR YOUR BUSINESS!
Yes we are under construction , we are building a 5 STAR EATERY & BAR on the property ,it is called Peggy's On The Green !
The room that you were taken to was a total mistake as that room ended up a collateral
damage as the new stove hood for the Eatery had to be installed ,they ripped my room apart .
I am so happy you to got to stay at my new 5 STAR WILLIAM HOTEL ! It has turned out to be an amazing Boutique Hotel.
I am also getting all new "everything " over here at the Ye Kendall Inn .
I am keeping with the "flavor" and time period of my Hotel , it is 159 years old and solid as a rock and every room has a different "theme" of the old Wild West" .
In todays market with "cookie cutter" Hotels we are completely different and step back in time to Luxury and let us ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET for you.
I look forward to meeting you in person next time you come back .
Thanks Again!

We reserved a cottage with a big front porch. Very private and very quaint. We stayed on a Sunday and Monday night with very few other guests there those two nights, so very quiet. The staff was excellent. Location could hardly have been more ideal. We will stay here again on a next visit to Boerne.

Room tip: All of the outer rooms of the main hotel are individually unique so I can't comment on other than the one we had. (Blanco 1).

Room was okay. They were updating the tavern and restaurant and it looked like the lobby had been redone. Our room was small but need the furnishings totally redone. I don't think I've seen a quilt on the bed like that in nearly a decade, same with the curtains and chairs. Towels had seen better days. A four dollar plastic shower liner for the shower? Really? Bed skirt stained and nearly falling off. Needed more accessible electrical outlets.
