The property is gorgeous, the little houses are beautifully decorated and most comfortable, and the service is unparalleled. I mean that...everyone, from NIgel (the main man) to his superb staff including Freddy, Lucy, Hector, Kobi, NIgel and everyone else is so kind and genuine. You MUST see Christopher do his magic tricks!

The setting is one of a kind and spectacular. Set on a ridge in a pine forest above a river with too many waterfalls to count, the lobby, bar and dining areas offer wonderful views. Take the path down (or the two-person tram like lazy I did) and you come across what I call a pavilion set seamlessly into nature. A massive outcropping with at least ten waterfalls creates a very large pool for swimming and exploring. You can lounge in the sun or the shade (hot sun). There is a sandy beach area, a little bridge, two pagodas with Adirondack chairs, and and three huge hammocks in the shade. Spend an entire day there and explore the river, especially Big Rock.

You CANNOT miss a trip to Caracol. I'm not going to try and describe this former 150k person Mayan city. It is a wonder -- exhilarating, powerful, and uncrowded (for now -- they're building a highway to it). Our trip to the cave was amazing too: we found ancient pottery pieces and it was jaw-dropping. The canoe ride through the water caves and the zipline was fantastic too -- don't forget to go the (sort of) bungee jump at the end...Wow!

This is in my top 5 favorite place ever visited and Gaia Riverlodge...well, perfect, I wouldn't change a thing. One last detail: the food is impeccable. Everything we ate was delicious and well proportioned. Get the full meal plan with a couple of excursions and you'll be so grateful to created memories at this unique and stunning place. I am.

Room tip: From what I could see, every thatched cottage has great views and its own charm.

The staff were delightful and very friendly. Breakfast was amazing every day. I wish the menu was a bit more extensive for dinners since there aren’t really other options nearby. My only regret is not staying longer!

Dear 791gretchenz

Thank you very much for your praise. We appreciate to know that you took fond memories with you.
We are currently on additions to the menu, a general expansion of the organic garden and are building a chicken farm. All this will add to the culinary experiinces.

Until next time and with best regards

My husband and I have just returned from a great week at Gaia Riverlodge! It was a stunning setting and amazing staff -- Freddy at the restaurant, Kobe at reception, Rick the most knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. Such natural beauty, felt so high end and true to the natural beauty of Belize. We really debated for a long time whether to go to the beach or the rainforest or both and we're so happy that we decided to stay at Gaia for the entire time.

For accommodations, we stayed in the Riverside Villa. It was absolutely breathtaking and felt like you were alone in the rainforest. This is definitely for guests that want to feel isolated and value total privacy! You are a far walk from the lodge but they were always happy to come pick us up and drop us off. If you're only staying a few nights, I would stay at the lodge but for us, it was great. The food was all delicious -- fresh fruits, baked goods every morning and a nice dinner menu with a special each night. My only recommendation would be to put a few more Belizian dishes on the menu!

The excursions were so easy to book and a great way to see the country. Highly recommend the ATM cave tour. I loved learning about all the plants from our tour guide Rick. The rivers and waterfalls are so beautiful and clean to swm in. I am an ocean girl and I did not miss the beach once -- Couldn't recommend this place more!

Dear 881ceceliar

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and insights.
We are glad that you had such good time with us in the Mountain Pine Ridge and we hope to be able to welcoming you again in the future. Then maybe with a combination to the sister property Matachica on the Caribbean shores of Belize.

Until then and with best regards,
Signed: Your friends at Gaia! :)

We just returned from 3 days at Gaia Riverlodge, and I have to say, it was an excellent experience. We live in Belize on the beach in Placencia, and try to getaway to the San Ignacio area as "vacation". staying at different jungle resorts each time. We have stayed at many others, and finally choose Gaia.
From the moment we arrived, it was a first class experience, from check in, to our beautiful river view room (River). The restaurant / bar was top notch ! The special lobster / steak Valentines Dinner, accompanied by a live violinist was one of my best experiences worldwide !
The entire staff were excellent and helpful, and friendly, always looking out for us.
Our "morning room service coffee lady" was a great way to start our day, what a smile.
My Award for Best Service Provider goes to Freddie in the restaurant, what a great member of the staff.
We will return :)

My husband and I started our honeymoon here at Gaia — the best decision we could've made. Planning our visit with them was a breeze (SO many excursions to choose from, and Geo helped narrow it down for us). The moment you step onto the property, you know you'll be well cared for. We spent 4 days there and while that did feel like plenty, we were sad to leave the gorgeous views, endless activities, amazing staff and unreal food. Truly a 5/5 experience!

THE PROPERTY: Absolutely gorgeous; photos can't do it justice. Our first few days were a bit chilly and overcast and it was STILL stunning. Definitely has the lodge feeling, where it's very easy to get around (it's not a huge property) but there's always a nice spot to chill out or explore. The waterfall is very easy to get down to and well worth the trek at least 1x a day. Worth noting they also have nice bathroom facilities at the bottom by the falls! An unexpected comfort.

THE ROOMS: So comfortable. More so than we expected, even. The bed and pillow feel luxurious. Shower is quite large. Everything felt really clean, really comfortable. We were shocked that the bug situation wasn't worse; we barely noticed the bugs at all while there (we were there in Feb. for reference). The room is well equipped with towels, bug spray, shower needs, robes, etc.

THE SERVICE: Truly impeccable. Every single person there makes an effort to learn your name and preferences. They're helpful and kind at every turn, making it easy to feel at home immediately. We have to give a shoutout to Rick and Greg for easy transport-turned-Belizean-tour; Calbert for taking us on multiple excursions and teaching us so much along the way; Lucy and Freddy for amazing dining service daily; Azel for the best cocktails we've ever had; Sam for cultivating an incredible garden that makes for incredible meals (and taking the time to talk to us about it!); Nigel, Hector, Shawn and Kobi for their attentiveness and helpfulness; and any others we missed! The staff works really hard to make this such a special place. They're an incredible bunch.

THE FOOD: Because of the remote location, you will eat here for nearly every meal (except for day-long excursions), and you'll be grateful to! The continental breakfast is delicious and filling, and the lunch and dinner menus have phenomenal variety (even for vegetarians). Some of the best meals we've had in our lives were here at Gaia. The organic garden on-site makes for the best fresh fruits and veggies in every meal/drink.

EXCURSIONS: Do not miss the chance to take full advantage of anything that interests you. The guides are incredible, and will ensure you make the most of your day with them!

All in all, we cannot recommend Gaia more highly to anyone looking for a bit of adventure in their Belize experience. They provide so many unexpected comforts in the middle of the forest, ensuring you can feel well rested and cared for while also getting out and experiencing all the mountains, rivers and forest have to offer. If you're the type to balance your R&R with some action, the incredible staff and property at Gaia should be your top choice!

Room tip: Waterfall view rooms are amazing and worth it, but note that you will hear it if you're a sensitive sleeper!
