My wife and I moved here 6 year's ago & plan on staying forever. If you want a place to clear your head or just to get some sun this is the place. I highly recommend coming to Galveston seawall ....

We went to the seawall area of Galveston. We were there in record high heat for early November so perfect time for a walk on the beach. The seawall was built for hurricane protection.

The big problem with this beach is that you have to pay to park there unless you are staying at one of the beach front hotels. There is lifeguards there during season and they are making improvements to it!!!

The seawall, built to protect Galveston from the ravages of hurricanes. The shops are on the island side of the seawall so there is no blocking the view. The sidewalk is wide and great for a walk or run.

Trying to find something to do during some off time, I drove from the Houston Hobby Airport area to Galveston. It's about a 35 minute drive, midday. I followed the signs toward historic downtown, but found myself following a WWII duck amphibious vehicle that led me to the seawall. There's plenty of pay parking and you must use an app or a cell phone to pay. Yes, the police seemed to be aggressively ticketing unpaid parking. I paid $2 for two hours. Since it's an off time, there wasn't a crowd.

The scenery was beautiful. There were many spots to sit down and take in the sights. The folks that were out and about were an eclectic mix of foreign visitors, locals and the occasional pan handler. There was ample room to walk or ride a bike for what seemed like endless miles of beachfront. The seawall stands about 6-8 feet tall and there were many ramps or stairs to get to the beach below. On the opposite side of the street, there were shops and restaurants that offered great views of the gulf. It was a pleasant diversion that was worth the trip.
