Was here for SPARTAN BEAST weekend!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 31, 2016
The food and customer service from the staff is impeccable. World class staff all around the venue, from entrance to exit, this location and venue is not one to be missed.

The cabins are excellent to visit or to stay overnight, and the bedding is just beyond words.

Thank you...

We visited Rough Creek Lodge at the end of October for a corporate planning session. I booked the trip through Christy who then handed me over to Ty to finalize all of the details for the trip. To start, Ty was very easy to communicate with and easily accessible via email which is my preferred form of contact for these types of things. We had mulitple changes leading up to the event and Ty was quick to respond so we could work it out.
Upon arrival, our meeting room was ready to go just as requested. The food was amazing the entire stay (some of our group even deemed it "too fancy") and all waitstaff and bartenders were very accommodating. I cannot say enough about that view from the dining room (also have the same view from all guest rooms). The rolling hills are just gorgeous and seem to have no end. We did the golf challenge (some in our group really enjoyed, others thought it was "OK") and we rented 2 mules the second afternoon. I would highly recommend the mules - and don't be afraid to take them off the beaten path! Make sure you take them around the 6 mile trail to the lookout point that is marked on your map. It's a steep climb up the 133 steps, but the view is INCREDIBLE and absolutely worth it.
We will definitely consider Rough Creek for our next planning event.

I cannot talk about staying at the Lodge, but dining for lunch at my first visit was outstanding. Sitting by the large windows overlooking the lake was a treat, enhancing the experience of top notch service by the waiters (yes, I said plural, as there were two men seating us, then one for the food service). Each day has a new menu we were told, so can only rave about this particular day's menu, lots of choices, including quail. Dining room was large, so no one need to be on top of each other, the only minus was the loud speaker at a meeting upstairs, open to the dining room downstairs. Thankfully they stopped for lunch ! I will definitely be back for more dining options. Beautiful drive through the country side to get there is a plus as well.

Rough Creek Lodge sits on 11,000 acres purchased from area ranchers. Ther are many fun activities available, shooting/ hunting being the dominant ones. It would also be good for families as activities for children are also available, such as trampoline, fishing, boating on small lake. We did the skeet shooting and hand gun range. The facilities for shooting ar very nice and our instructor was great, informative and encouraging. The rooms are large enough but dated. Furnishings are rather rugged.
The common facilities are nice and meeting rooms are available. A spa is also on the property with massages, etc. if you are looking for an outdoorsy vacation in a rustic setting, this is the place!
PS. 21% gratuity is added to everything.

Superb! That is the only description I have for our visit last week to Rough Creek. My wife Caryn and I, were talking on the drive home back to Keller that you all just keep getting better each time we visit. We are Rod & Gun Club members, so we had close dealings with a lot of your staff. Teka Paul, Shannon Ziegler, Meagan Moreno, and Tanner Morgan were extremely helpful and courteous, as always. Your team members, Amber and Anissa at the front desk, with Daniel are also excellent at Customer Service. Caryn also wanted to send a thank you and a job well done to Crystal, in the spa. There is not a restaurant in Dallas – Ft. Worth that I would rather eat at, than Rough Creek. Gerard Thompson is clearly in a “league of his own”. On a 1 to 10 scale he and his staff are a “10” without reservation.
On our visit last week, I was fortunate to bag two exotics; a Fallow Deer, and Scimitar Horned Oryx. Once again, I had Alan Huffman as my guide and I am positive I would not have gotten a shot if it weren’t for Alan. He is truly the best hunting guide I have ever been with. He is safe, helpful, gives good feedback and instruction, and simply knows the program. He has the best “wildlife eye” I have ever seen; and I’ve seen some good ones.
Congratulations again on a great team. See you soon.

Our family really enjoyed our time here. The activities were SO much fun and enjoyed by each of us (ages 2 to 63). Our 4 year old granddaughter loved Angel the pony. Our 6 year old grandson enjoyed the same things the rest of us did: climbing wall, archery, tomahawk throwing, air guns, zip line and more. The family pool was very nice for everyone. The breakfast buffet was very good but the dinners were outstanding. The award winning chef really makes the plates gourmet. This is distinctive dining at it's finest. But what truly made our stay superb was the staff. Employees were friendly and helpful and truly showed interest in making our stay special. They were also very kind to our grandchildren. We live 1000 miles from Rough Creek but we hope to come again.
