We stayed at one of the beautiful condos inside The Cliffs Resort last weekend. We came with our friends and their children. Some of our friends stayed at The Villa. The others made reservations at The Inn.

The Cliffs Resort is about 2 hours away from the Dallas Metroplex. Rooms at The Inn are beautiful, some of them have a breath-taking view of the lake. The Inn is situated on top of the cliff so you get a magnificent, panaromic view of the Lake Possum Kingdom.

Chaparalle Grille is within walking distance from the Inn. It is the only restaurant inside the resort. You have to drive 20-30 minutes in order to find another restaurant in town. The food was really good, there was live music last Saturday. The band played jazz and pop music to our delight.

The waiters were very accommodating. We even changed our mind and requested to be seated in the outdoor patio so we can enjoy the sun setting down the neatly manicured golf course and the lake before our party of 15 ordered anything. They were very pleasant and courteous.

We rented a pontoon boat from the marina and swam in the waters just across the well-known Hells' Gate. There's also a sandy beach area near the marina.

There are two pools inside the resort. There are several places inside the resort where you can grill and do BBQ .

We haven't been back in almost a decade and the visit was definitely worth it . Glad that they have since recovered after the 2011 wildfire.

First, this is a low rating for me.....I nearly always think people are trying to do their best at hotels and I have mentioned several 4 and 5 stars over time.
Summary:
first, The Feast:
-Location and lake are beautiful
-Golf is extremely hard and a challenging and unusual course
- Marina service is easy and friendly (rented a boat for 10 plus a Sea Doo)
- Villa Suites were easy for our family (11 total, 5 families). They are connected and allowed for easy morning coffee and evening cook outs
and, now, The Famine
We have been to this resort many times over a number of years including July 2015 and just returned (July 2016)-- the front desk staff starts your visit with a friendly, efficient greeting.
The Grille is the only restaurant within 25 or more minutes of the Cliffs. It is billed as fine dining....the facility itself is attractive and could be a great place (full bar, decent selection from menu)
The management at the Grille is probably the worst I have ever encountered. They are literally rude and insulting. We have even been turned away after calling in advance for reservations. Another couple on the porch commented, "it's terrible in there, isn't it?)
The restaurant has consistently gotten worse over time.
Recommendation? Call the Wildcatter Resort (about 25 minutes) for friendly service for 11 people at 8 pm. Fantastic steaks and even better customer service. We recommend you avoid The Grille completely- for any meal. (When asked if they serve breakfast...."not sure?")
Housekeeping- never know if they are coming or not. At a lake, clean towels and trash removal are of prime importance.....but you are never sure if even these basics will be covered (and were not one day for all five families who returned from 5 hours on lake in 100 degree weather) When housekeepers do show up, service is fine...but a couple of times when we checked with desk after no service....were told guests had said "no service needed"------this happened more than once and none of our party had even seen any housekeeping staff much less spoken with them.
Spa- the building is beautiful, but nobody actually works there. There are a couple of estheticians from nearby towns who will make an appointment to drive out for one service (only one guest at a time, only one or two days during the week.) We have tried to use this facility three separate years, called in advance, etc. Recommendation? Spa is just a nice building on the grounds....not even sure how you would ever use it?
Conclusion:
This is our much anticipated time together each summer and we use resort facilities and spend money. It just won't be at the Cliffs in the future.

Room Tip: Villa Suites have microwave and mini refrigerator-- nice at a lake. The Inn has beautiful views of the lake and golf course.

We utilized The Cliffs for our company retreat in Nov. 2015 and although this review is a bit late, I wanted to commend the excellent service we received from the GM, Jeff Harper and our meeting wait staff. They went above and beyond to help make sure everything went smoothly and although we encountered a few hiccups in coordination with the group sales department the team on-site did their best to make it a memorable experience. Our attendees feedback on the venue was all positive and we will definitely be returning to the Cliffs.

We took a spur of the moment trip, and need a hotel to stay at. Quite a few were already book however the cliffs resort had a couple rooms left. This is a gated community with on site security. The golf course was wonderful all the way from the gentleman that rents the equipment to the person that you return the cart to. I really enjoyed speaking with the two ladies at the front while my other half played golf. They shared the history of the place and showed me where to see the best view and take a walk at. The rooms were very clean, comfortable bed, nicely furnished and had a great balcony to sit on to relax. With the security, how clean the how entire resort was, the nice room and of course the outstanding service, I believe it is well worth it ever penny.

Had a wonderful time. The location was secluded, just far away enough from town, very nice views of the lake. Excellent dinner and service from everyone. Rooms were very nice as well and peaceful. d definitely revommend this place for a romantic getaway weekend.
