“only down fall is parking and over priced food.”
Reviewed 10 April 2012

We really enjoyed the hotel, balcony, indoor pool, staff, mini waterpark, and the food. Its just that our breakfast was good but overpriced. For a family of 4 we ate at the mexican resturant, it was the most expensive meal the whole trip (My husband and two children, both under the age of 6). We stayed in a very central room overlooking a sports bar and steak house. I did get desserts to go from the resturant that looks like the alamo. That average price and delicious. Now on the parking: we choose to do the valet. Since it was so expensive we didn't tip very much very often. But it was worth it. I am sure other guest felt like by the time you walk to the front of the hotel, you don't feel like walking to the parking garage. We left quiet often to eat and do things. I would recommend the hotel and the town to others.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the sports bar or front entrance of hotel.

We were just there for one night. But it was very relaxing. Nice, self-contained. It was raining outside - but we enjoyed walking around inside. We selected a room with an atrium view - a little more expensive but for us it provided a nice view of all the areas inside. The people were extremely helpful and nice. The only semi-disappointment was the Italian restaurant - food was good, not great, the service was adequate - again, not great.

Room Tip: If you don't mind spending a little more and you want an inside view of the riverwalk, sights et...

My husband and I brought our two sons, one from Seattle, one from Boulder, and their wives and children for a weekend stay. It was memorable, wonderful hotel, grand setting, lovely pools and a lot to do. We ate at the Italian restaurant, and the staff welcomed our group, including 4 youngsters, and the waiter could not have been more courteous, and accomodating. The Paradise Springs pool experience with the lazy river, the zip line splash, and the many chaise lounges in both sun, shade, and water was a tremendous hit, and we loved having healthy food offerings for the kids, as well as beverages and food we all enjoyed. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the higher floors for a spectacular view.

Recently, April, 2012, I attended a conference for work at the Gaylord Texan. I cannot say enough about the staff and accommodations. All were perfect! During this time, the tornados hit the Dallas area. The staff were so efficient and helpful in getting us all to "safe" places and informing us of what was going on. This was probably the most professional staff I have had the opportunity to experience. Thank you!

Room Tip: A room with a balcony room over the atrium is fantastic!

The Gaylord Texan was a great place to stay. I was there for a conference and was so impressed with how beautiful this place is. Some of the best restaurants right on property include The Old Hickory Steakhoouse, Zeppole, and The Riverwalk Cantina. The staff here are extremely friendly and helpful. I was here during the tornado's and the Hotel did an outstanding job of evacuating the hotel to the underground tunnels. They were so organized and kept everyone calm. I knew I was safe where I was at. I had no idea of the devastation that was going on outside. I had an atrium view so my balcony overlooked the beautiful river and flowers and model trains. It was an awesome stay and would go back!

Room Tip: Choose the Atrium view.

After a long day flying we just wanted to check in and relax, but were told they didnt hav ethe king room we booked and paid for. We were then told check in is at 3, and its first come first serve, we explained we booked a king room not a queen and specifically paid extra for it, they aregued we didnt. We showed them we did. Regardless of check in time most travellers esp for busniess fly a long way to get there adn the room reserved should still be there, as I would have to pay for it regardless.
But it wasnt even that it was the overalll of well attitide. They then let us wait at the front desk over 20 min while they tried to get a room for us, finally htey gave us keys. Alas we got to the room and it was occupied! lucky we didnt walk in on the poor lady naked, she was shocked enough when we entered.
We trooped back downstais and were put into the presidential suite, a 15k per nite room. It was big. Ok. Big mostly. Not worth 15k.
Then in the AM we packed up and left our bags in the room and went down to swap keys. Well that was the way it should have went. Instead they looked at us like we had to heads when we said we wanted them to move our bags for us, then we had to do the ENTIRE check in process again, asked if we had a car, valet, swiped our credit cards- the whole thing. 20 more mins later we had keys and were finally off to our confrence.
Another thing that erked me was the resort fee. 15$ at check in per day which isnt included when you book online. Its just tacky. if you want another 15 dollars just make the room 15 more. Dont trick they system of travelocity etc by saying you are a resort and thus entitled to charge a resort fee at check in - just charge what you want upfront. It was not a cheap stay, we had to pay over 350 per night for a king room the week we were there for our confrence so just be upfront and charge up front. its just off putting.
The nice pool adn splash park is not anywhere close to the lobby, a shuttle is required to get there. So if you are planning on taking kids its quite inconvienent waiting at lobby with the masses for a shuttle to bring you there.
The pool at the hotel is not ok ofr little kids btw.
Pool side drinks and food were not really up to par either.
nor was the steakhouse in hotel - agian not bad- service was good, but typical tastes nothing exciting or WOW.

The entire experince there contiruned this was. It was not any one thing that was bad, the rooms were nicely decorated the lobby beautiful, but hte service level was just not up to par for a hotel like that.

I went to the gaylord for a convention, its a beautiful property with many things to do. I enjoyed my stay. I loved the beautiful landscape, the area with trains on display, riverwalk and beautiful pools. The property is large and spacious, The rooms were large , clean and had comfortable beds and a balcony overlooking the active areas in the hotel. I enjoyed being able to walk outside without being bit by insect as the hotel is covered with glass. While I was there 13 toronado hit the area while we were in meeting the hotel did a wonerful job in getting everyone to safety. Go Glaylord!!.
