“Not good enough for a world class city...”

If you have been to many other zoo's, like I have, this zoo just does not measure up. Obviously, you would not expect anything close to the San Diego Zoo, but a city like Houston should have a much better zoo than this. The exhibits are not very nice, the place feels old and run down, the aviary section really needs a face lift, and the zoo lacks a major attraction, a wow-exhibit.

“Beautifully designed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2012

One of the best zoos I've visited. It was perfect zoo weather when we visited. Not too cold or hot. The tickets were very reasonable and you can get a slight discount at Fiesta grocery stores. First up we saw a sleeping Komodo dragon which was impressive. The lions and tigers were being lazy, as was the bears. The lion exhibit was impressive in how you can get a 360 degree experience around the lions. We skipped the birds and reptiles as we were short of time. The African exhibit is beautifully themed with great opportunities to get up close with Chimpanzees. The rhino exhibit was sadly closed. What sets the park apart is how beautifully themed it is. The designers really sweated the details. It's also very clean. The children's playing area is also unique in that it's integrated into the zoo. Kids are climbing up rope ladders and going down slides, right next door to Otters. We spent close to 3 hours and had a great time!

They have a lot of animals, people are friendly and ready to answer your questions and most of all they have a lot of shade.

“Could be nicer”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans is much nicer. This zoo is just simply exhibits with animals in them. It wasn't really "nice". Just simply full of animals. We were lucky to catch all the animals active during our visit. The weather was great.

The zoo is an awesome place for an afternoon getaway...animal experiences are delightful and informative...food choices however are not healthy for most part...it would be nice to have more healthy choices....
