“Needs some TLC”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

The hotel location isn't bad but the rooms need some TLC. The toilet ran for at least 1 hour after use in our room as well as our neighbors room. The doors were damaged as well as the tiles in the bathroom. The rooms are a bit larger than most Springhill Suites. There were 2 Televisions in the room and the bathroom seperated the bedroom from the living area. The listed hotel rate was $109 which was a bit much for the condition of the room. I used points for my stay and would have been even more dissappointed had I paid for the room.

My husband and I have stayed at other Springhill Suites and were quite satisfied with our stay.

The hotel is dated, which is not a problem, as long as the customer service aspect is maintained.

My husband lost a pair of sunglasses, he called the front desk to report the loss. He was told that all lost items were locked up and only housekeeping could access the room. He was pomised a call back which did not happen. He had to call twice AND go back to the hotel for resolution. The walls were very thin. We could hear the people in the next room having a normal conversation. My husband asked to be moved, which he was, to another room. The toilet would not flush. We had to move again. The hotel needs a renovation at most. I normally rate my experiences with the Marriott chain on a high scale, however, this property did not meet my expectations.

For the second time, I stayed at the Springhill Suites Houston Medical Center. The service has been great, the location is convenient for this area of Houston; the parking, internet service, business printing and faxing, and breakfast are free. The workout room was small with 4 machines, but the selection was better than I have seen in similar sized and rated properties. The hotel suite was small, but divided into two area --- the bedroom and a sitting area. Each had a flat screen TV. The "joining area" included a small kitchen area with a microwave, small refrigerator, coffee maker, and a sink There is free shuttle transportation to the medical center hospitals. There is easy access by car to Rice University and the Rice University Shopping Village. The Wed. night I stayed, the hotel had hired a massage therapist who was giving complimentary chair massages in the breakfast area for those who had signed up. The next night they were having their annual holiday party and all guests were invited.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor, quiet area room. I was on the top floor, 7th floor.

Obviously this is a value-priced location of the Marriott family of properties. So, your expectations should be properly focused on value rather than amenities. That said, we were pleasantly surprised by this location.

The room was larger than other Springhill Suites where we have stayed recently. Therefore, the one-room configuration with a privacy wall (rather than a separate room) still provided enough visual and sound privacy for our family trip.

The hotel is located within Houston's Medical Center area, which is also conveniently located for easy access to the Museum District. Given this popular location, the pricing was very reasonable. The staff was very friendly, but was a bit slow to react to a repair request. The breakfast buffet was "as expected", and the room was nicely arranged.

Both parking and wi-fi were complimentary, which is appreciated. We will definitely stay here again on a future visit.

Room Tip: We found the "king suite" to be best for us, since it allowed for plenty of floorspace wit...

My family and I always stay here when visiting Houston because it's close to the people and places we visit when in Houston. The living room/bedroom setup is perfect for traveling with young children who go to bed earlier than the adults. We've stayed here once or twice a year for the past couple of years, and the breakfast seems to have been upgraded lately. Our kids like the do-it-yourself waffles, and the adults like the yogurt, toast, and fruit. The beds are comfortable, with plenty of pillows, and the showers have good water pressure. The hotel is certainly not brand new, and the hallways are often warm and muggy, but you're only in the hallway for a few minutes a day, so who cares? For the price, we think the hotel, with its excellent location and included breakfast, is a good value. We will continue to stay here when we visit Houston.

What a disappoint when we arrived late at this hotel. We had previously stayed at a Spring Hill Suites so were anticipating a fantastic room like last time. We arrived to find out this was apparently some other hotel before and Marriott took it over. The room was so old and dated. We had to take a handicap room with a "roll in " shower. I had never heard this term before or I would have never said OK to it. The entire bathroom was OLD, dingy and dirty looking and the shower got the entire bathroom wet. Honestly we barely wanted to even shower, actually my 2 daughters opted NOT to. Sleeping comfort was ok. It's not horrible but NOT good either!
