The south shore "pink sand" beaches get all the love for obvious reasons, but Shelly Bay is perfect for families. The bay is protected so the waves are gentle, and there is a playground at the beach. There are benches under shade trees for those who are sun-sensitive, and the beach is never crowded. The only downside is that there are no facilities, hopefully a temporary situation.

We had our two small children with us so this was a wonderful stop since they both could play in the very shallow and calm waters here. The depth of the water barely changes as you walk out into the ocean and I probably walked out 250 yards or so and was still only up to my chest. The beach is small and narrow, but there is also a park right next to the sand that the kids could go play at when they needed a change of scenery. Just depends on your group whether this is a good stop for you or not.

This is just a wonderful beach for children who cannot swim and for those who can. you can walk quite a distance out before the water comes to your neck. clear sparkling water most of the year. just an awesome beach to sunbathe on.

We were on a cruise and our ship docked in the capital of Hamilton. We've been to Bermuda more than a dozen times and friends that live in Bermuda told us about this beach. Our friends were not on the island when we visited so we decided to visit this beach. We were not disappointed! We took the bus from the station in Hamilton. Before getting on the bus we stopped at a supermarket near the bus station and got some cheese, fruit, crackers, nuts, crisps. We had a bottle of wine as well. It took us less than 30 mins to get to the beach. The bus stop is right across the street from the beach. There is a building where, I believe they have a refreshment stand and rent beach chairs and towels on the weekend. We were there on a weekday, so nothing was open. There is a playground for kids. Bar-b-Ques for public use. We brought our own beach blankets and had a wonderful time. We were the only one's on the beach. Except for one elderly man hunting for treasure with his metal detector. The water was like glass, so calm. It was a wonderful day. We stayed for a couple of hours. There were some mothers that came to the playground with their kids, but we could barely hear them. We decided to leave around 4:30 pm. We waited at the bus stop, a beautiful pastel hut with a white limestone roof. After about 20 mins without a bus we hailed the next cab that drove by. He brought us back to Hamilton. It was about a 10 minute drive and cost less than $10.00 USD. Bermuda Dollars & US Dollars are an equal exchange and cab drivers accept both currencies. Most cab drivers will not accept debit or credit cards. It was a wonderful day! Can't wait to go back!
