Baden-Wurttemburg's best kept secret!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 3, 2019
This was the best place we stayed in Southern Germany – so clean and comfortable (even a full length bath to luxuriate in!). Our host, Michaela, greeted us with a big smile and gave us hiking maps and free bus passes for the duration of our trip. When we hiked up through the vineyards above the town, the views of the Rhine Valley were breathtaking. Also, the din of bird sounds added a great soundtrack to our hike. We talked to a couple of birdwatchers who told us that the area is a paradise for bird lovers. We learned that the local vintners have constructed breeding huts to help repopulate the hoopoe bird (an endangered species).

One suggestion I would make (and something I would do if we go there again) would be to take a bus to nearby Vogtsburg or Oberbergen and, from there, hike back to Ihringen through the vineyard hills and forests. That way, one could go much farther without backtracking.

Also, I want to say that the food there was exceptional. Breakfast at the hotel was everything we could want, and our dinner at Heidi’s courtyard café was the best food we had in Germany (especially the spargel soup).

Every day, busloads of Rhine River tourists pass through Ihringen on their way to a brief stop in Lake Titisee. I hope they keep doing that and don’t suddenly decide to stop in Ihringen. That would take away from the area’s local charm and authentic ambience.

All in all, this was a fantastic leg of our vacation. Thank you again to our hosts, Michaela and Helmut, for making us feel so welcome.

An overnight stop which could become a longer term destination in future. Marvellous welcome, large modern room with clean spacious bathroom and station just at the back. Free parking both sides of the hotel. Well designed and insulated against train noise (four local passenger trains an hour); with the free train ticket a great add-on. We went to Breisach, which is only five minutes away by train and is well worth the visit.

We stayed at the Hotel Garni Kaiserstuhl for four nights and found it a wonderful hotel that is warm, welcoming and comfortable. Our hosts were a delight and very helpful. Our room was a nice size, very clean and the breakfasts were just wonderful. We went there on the recommendation of friends who had told us about how convenient the train was -- we had no idea that it would be just feet from the hotel. However, there was no bothersome noise (it's more of a commuter line) and we took full advantage of the train passes that were given to us at check in, a real plus in our book.

Good sized room which was very comfortable. Bed was very comfortable, and there was no noise from the railway. Our hosts were very welcoming, and the breakfast was good.
The village in the wine growing area near the Swiss border and the Rhine was charming.

Hotel is very nice, comfortable and rooms are fair size. Breakfast is rich with lot's of variety (I recommend egs with tomato). People who works in hotel are very friendly, also they will help you with any questions regarding this area.

Room tip: Most of the rooms are on the ground floor, so ask for room on first floor if you don't like this,

This is a simple hotel in a small village. The room (110) was fairly spartan looking but was a good size and spotlessly clean. The shower was fine though I would have preferred a bar of soap to the liquid dispenser provided.

Wifi is provided at a somewhat leisurely but usable 5 MBps download speed, which is a bit less than half the current European average. The room had a desk and chair and a spare electrical socket above the desk.

The manageress was friendly and spoke good English. The mattress was quite firm but traffic noise was quite low. A basic but good value hotel.
