We stayed here at Easter 2012 from 2-9 April. It was with my husband, 6 year old daughter and 15 month old son. Despite mixed weather we had a really good break.
FOOD: the all inc buffet was of very good quality with fresh salads, fruit with different hot choices at every mealtime. there was a bit of repetition on occasion but that's to be expected I think. The only thing to note is the restaurant is busy, noisy and totally lacks any kind of ambience. A few years ago this would have bothered me as I would have wanted a more peaceful environment but now with two children it was ideal because no-one minded us leaving behind a messy table and my baby son throwing food over the side of his high chair !!! The staff worked really hard and the restaurant manager was very helpful.
DRINK: beer on tap to help yourself, wine 'ok' but dreadful cocktails as no fresh fruit juice juice was ever used, just that syrupy flavoured water. Coffee undrinkable. This would be the sole reason I wouldn't return to this hotel as all inclusive should mean reasonable tasting drinks. Shame really, maybe wouldn't bother other people but I don't like spirits so I just had beer and wine. With children it's wasn't such an issue for us but if you are going on hols to have a good few drinks then might not be ideal.
ROOM: we were in graciosa block in a family room and was really spacious and overlooked the lovely lawns. The beds were comfy, we had a cot, walk in wardrobe/dressing room with a fridge & safe. Bathroom was small but okay. Very long balcony. No hair dryers so take your own. TV didn't work too well but we don't go on holiday to watch tv. I am sure they would have fixed it if had asked. All areas very clean.
ENTERTAINMENT: staff were brilliant. My daughter went to the mini club a few times and although you don't drop and leave your kids there, they are supervised doing lots of activities like mask making, egg hunt, painting Easter eggs etc etc. we just grabbed a couple of loungers on a grassy area so our son could crawl around and we could see the playground & mini club from there. Also in the evening 8-9 mini disco which had proper little entertainment/plays/dancing for them rather than just an hour of dreadful kids dance songs. We took the kids to bed at 9 so never stayed for any other eve entertainment. We then sat on the balcony and had a couple of drinks (took it in turns to pop to the bar to collect drinks - they didn't mind glasses taken to the room).
GENERAL: the hotel is located on top of a steep hill so a long way down to the beach via steps or the hill. Good views of the maspalomas sand dunes. San agustin is fairly quiet and not particularly pretty. Taxis are quick and fairly cheap to get around locally - we had a look at the dunes and went to playa del ingles - again not pretty but interesting to see.
Pools were very cold but I think this was due to not brilliant hot weather while we were there.
Overall though we had a lovely easter week away, we just wanted some warm weather, good food and a chance to chill out and spend time together as a family. And that's what we got.
