The Sahara Playa 1+2 is situated within spitting distance of the main beach at Playa Del Ingles. We stayed in an apartment on an all inclusive basis for a week. The reception is a little boring but the staff friendly enough. The hotel is split into two blocks and if you selected an apartment then it involves a bit of up stairs, down stairs, up lift, down lift to get to your room. Apartments are spacious with a separate bedroom (two single beds), bathroom with shower only and a lounge diner. Basic kitchen utensils provided so you are advised to take a travel kettle. There is a TV which shows a plethoria of Spanish and German channels and for us Brits the BBC world news channel!! Bed linen is meant to be changed twice a week and towels when you drop them on the floor, but dont hold your breath. Room cleaning if you can call it that is poor. There is a safe in the room which costs 12 euros a week with a refundable 12 euro deposit.
The restaurant is average and spacious serving typical buffet type food. Food is good quality and there is something for everyone. A good thing was that the food was hot. However you do see things recycled, ie carrots for breakfeast and sprouts appear in everything.
OK the worst thing about this hotel is the all inclusive drinks option. There are three swimming pools at the hotel and all three are no bigger than fish ponds. Two in the hotel complex have a few sun beds but there is no bar at either. To get your all inclusive drinks during the day you have to sit at the third pool bar situated on the main road at the front of the hotel. The pool here is filthy dirty. The bar is small and there are no sun beds, only chairs and tables. So if you want a drink then you have to endure the noise of cars etc from the road and also the carbon monoxide fumes and dirt and dust.
However this bar closes at 6pm and to get your all inclusive drinks you have to go to the second bar within the hotel, to a room like a hospital waiting room. This room has a bar where you will meet the most miserable and rudest woman on the planet. Once you get a drink you can sit and watch some German TV program, or watch one or two elderly German couples playing cards. Sorry forgot to say that 90% of the guests are German. This bar is so boring that you will not want to go there.
I have read other reports from people who have rated this hotel highly and I have to say I am wondering whether they went to the same hotel as us. I think the all inclusive option is a waste of money and you might be better off going half board and paying for the drinks.
The hotel did not have an animation team and absolutely no entertainment in the evenings. It was boring beyond belief. There are few facilities, if any, for children. If you are a family then I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere.
The sea front has plenty of bars and restaurants and some entertainment. The Yumbo and Kasbar shopping centres are a short walk away and are good for the night life. There is a market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings at Maspalomas (get a taxi outside the hotel).
So all in all not good. We are a couple in our mid 50s and seek a quiet relaxing holiday, sun bed, good pool, drinks by pool, peace and quiet and we did not get this at all. So on my scale of 1 to 5 Turkeys ( 5 being the worst) I gave this three turkeys.

Good things: Can't beat the proximity to the beach. Room was clean and bright (but quite basic). Good shower. Decent staff; not overly effusive but no problems with them either.

This was my first experience with an all inclusive vacation, and I was disappointed with that aspect. Food was definitely plentiful; breakfast was good, lunch was okay, dinner not so good. Food sits on buffet until congealed and everything kind of tastes the same; very ready to not eat that anymore after a week! Felt like a second class citizen as an all inclusive guest; my husband asked for coffee after dinner (which is on the list of approved AI drinks) but was told he had to go outside. During the day, drinks are only available from a special AI only pool bar, which serves basic drinks in throwaway cups--and is RIGHT NEXT to the "real" pool bar which serves gorgeous cocktails and beers in real glasses. You have a choice of 3 cocktails as an AI guest (pina colada, tequila sunrise, san francisco); I like margaritas, white russians, and mai tais so I was disappointed. I have pretty low standards as far as wine goes but the house white was horrible.

Pools are tiny but the beach is right next door. We had bad weather, which was disappointing, as other than the beach and sunning there's not a lot to do. We're not party/disco folks. We're in our 30's; most guests were in their 60's (and german) which was ok with us but might not appeal to other younger people.

I would stay there again but I wouldn't do the all inclusive option.

We went, all inclusive and that's a good choice for here. We walked the 5 minutes ti the Yumbo Center most nights and it's rigth by the beach too @Playa.

The food's from a good, buffet selection. To give you an idea how much it's focused on German clients, they have a German-speaking radio station and signage is in Spanish, and German. We asked for a kettle for our 'superior' apartment (to make tea), there were none to be had! Not a huge problem but it illustrates the point.

Staff are helpful, courteous and the rooms kept very clean. I liked that their are three separate pools scattered about the complex. If like me by the week's end you hanker for a British accent this may not be for you but it's a place I would return to without hesitation.

Myself and my partner booked this hotel last minute and were very concerned with regards to the location, cleanliness ect. When we arrived at the hotel we were very plesantly suprised. It was very well mantanined from the outside and looked suprisingly good for the money we paid. Once inside we were greeted by a welcoming lady at the hotel reception who checked us in quickly and efficiently and gave us our room keys. Our room was extreemly large with a beautiful bathroom to match, we were also given at no extra cost a balcony with a sea view and all the amenities you could need/ want.

The hotel mostly caters for German guests and only one other English couple were staying at the hotel but all staff spoke English and were very accomodating. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels and sheets.

The food was buffett style and not the most exciting although well cooked with lots of variety.

The location of the hotel was fantastic, the hotel is a 3 minute stroll to the Beach, shops bars and resturants and the main centre Kabah is approximatly 7minute walk away. It is also approx 2 minutes to the main taxi rank, here you can get cheap taxi's to nearby maspalomas, water parks, golf corses, animal parks or to puerto rico where they have many great boat trips from booze cruises, to dolphin spotting.

Overall we had a great holiday and we were extremly inpressed with the hotel and all the staf there.

I and my partner have been there from Dec 27,2006 till Jan 7, 2007. I am strongly recomend this hotel to you. We pay 1215 euro per 10 days, Half Board and New Year diner was included. We have nice view to the sea from our room - two large rooms, it was apartments building - its realy well renoveted. The rooms was clean and had mini-kitchen with microwaive and coffe-maker. The hotels is near IFA Dunamar - but rooms in Sahara Playa apartments building are more morden and large, than in IFA Dunamar.
The staff is very healpfull: Iberia lost our baggage, and found it only in 3 days. The staff help as every time. The food was good and different every day. I like this hotel - if you would like go there - choose the apartments and booked it directly to the hotel, its realy more cheap.
