Lovely time at The Other Place

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 16, 2016
My husband and I spent one weekend in an upstairs cabin at The Other Place Resort. I love eating breakfast al fresco in the balcony where you feel like you can reach the tree branches, watch several curious squirrels running up and down the trees. And then, there's a doe and her two fawns on the grounds by the river. The river looks inviting and fresh, but too early for tubers and swimmers.
The accomodations here is rustic, but clean and comfortable. The bathroom is a little tight, but it serves it's purpose. The resort is family oriented. The service is friendly and kind.
Tip: read the instructions on how to rent the tubes/equipment to enjoy the glorious Comal river. There are specific pick up times if you wish to go to tubing from Landa Park and points there after.

I have going on vacation to The Other Place my entire life. Some of my best childhood memories come from The Other Place and now I get to share this with my kids. We love our annual visit and will continue to go for years to come.
The rooms are large, each room has a full kitchen and tv, the location is perfect for New Braunfels. You can spend your days floating the horse shoe (section of the Comal River) or playing with the kids in the "kiddie pool" area of the Comal that is bricked off.

Room tip: We prefer the room on the first floor as the steps can be a little tricky for the kids.

We had one of the cabins that faced the river. It was great.
Bed was comfy.
Shower was a little tight, but great water pressure.
Kitchenette was perfect.

Area in the middle with sand volleyball, playground, grills, etc.

Location close to main streets, and also Schlitterbahn and several river entrances.

Would recommend, and stay again.

We went on a end of summer trip, kind of last minute, we were not sure what we were going to get...what a pleasant surprise! From the outside the cabins have a German town vibe...the insides were neat and clean and looked like they had been recently updated. Every room had a balcony that faced the river!! The grounds themselves could have used a little facelift but were still nice. There was a playground area for the kids which was nice as well as a volleyball court and a horseshoe pitching area...grills were also available for use. For a family with small kids, the float time is perfect...about 30 minutes from one side of the property to the other which is in a horseshoe shape, so no long walk back! Do beware if you bring your own floats...put them away at night...ours were stolen from outside our cabin, that was the only real negative to the whole time we were there...it is a good family atmosphere!

Love, love, love this place! Our first time to stay here based on the recommendation from a friend. Older facility, but no worries ... it's a great place to stay. Not sure if it's a family run business, but they sure made it seem that way & treated us that way. The location is perfect ... right on the Comal River. Every room on the property faces the river - which is just steps off your porch. The property is very shaded - you are surrounded by beautiful nature. We were even luck enough to have sweet little visitor each day, most of the day ... a mama deer & her beautiful 6 week old fawns.
You can float the river from one end of the property to the other ... about a 20-30 minute float. Or you can use their shuttle service ($5 pp) to take you further up river to do a long float down the Comal - anywhere from an hour & half or longer.
The cabins aren't fancy, but they are certainly quaint & comfortable. You're not there to stay inside your cabin anyway. Porch time is great any time of the day. The only issue we had was with the a/c ... even though set on 72, at night it never felt like it was that cool. But that's certainly not enough to keep us away - we'd definitely stay here again.
In the middle of the property is a nice play/family area equipped with a playground, bbq grills, seating, & (I think) horseshoes. Plenty of area to gather a large group to hang out. There's also plenty of areas riverside that offer gathering spots.
Overall - great!

Room tip: ALL rooms have a great view! Would be hard to choose which is the best.

I just returned from my annual trip to The Other Place in New Braunfels. It's perfectly located on the Comal River in town. Barry, Sarah, and the office ladies are fantastic, and welcoming every time I stay there. There's plenty of river access, or if you just want to sit by and visit with toobers floating by, I highly recommend this place.

If I'm in New Braunfels, I'm at The Other Place.
