My wife and I stayed here while visiting New Braunfels to go tubing on the Comal River. The innkeeper was very friendly and responsive (I needed to make sure I the inn provided wireless internet before I arrived, so I emailed the innkeeper before getting on the road and he responded very quickly to confirm that they do offer wireless).

The inn is very unique and has a lot of history. The piano bar in the basement is a nice place for a drink and very popular on Friday and Saturday nights. The breakfast was delicious and all of the employees were very friendly.

Gruene seems to have a bit more activity going on at night, however it is less than a 10 minute drive away, so it is worth staying in New Braunfels (I found the inns and B&Bs in Gruene to be more expensive).

First impression, nice property well maintained with character. The innkeepers son who checked us in, never smiled and seemed indifferent- not the usual warm bubbly reception we have received at similar establishments.
Room was nice and comfortable, roll away bed not appropriate for anyone over about 60 pounds as you could feel the springs through the matress.
Didnt get to visit the piano bar as you must be 21 and our son was 19.
Breakfast was good, the quiche just as good if not better than what we had be served the day prior at the prestigious "Riverfront Tea Room" in Gruene.
"Al" the inn keeper and the ladies that worked in the kitchen were wonderful and went out of their way to make us feel at home.
Actually enjoyed the "train sound" in the distance, it did not keep us awake but I understand that in March of 2012 the trains will not be blowing their horns after a certain hour. Stayed upstairs and did not hear the piano or other guest for that matter, the inn was quiet.

Stayed at the Solms back in the 80's and thought it was one of NB gems then, and now, with a few recent upgrades and attention to detail with regular upkeep, it should be on everyone's list of historical destinations to stay or stop by. Very few places left in the hill country that have maintained the charm of original B and B's. The front porch street has more traffic now than ever, but no problem sleeping, bed was too comfortable and not noisy after the door is shut. Breakfast was better than expected and plenty of it. Service was right on. A 5 minute walk to the Comal and downtown square.
I'll be back and will recommend to anyone going that way.

Room Tip: The songbird has a very comfy king size and although next to the street, it's quiet. Access to...

The inn is dated but clean. The new owner (less than 5 years) is slowly updating and restoring the inn. The innkeeper and the cook were very hospitable. Breakfast, for the two mornings we were there, was wholesome and delicious, not the usual microwaved freeway motel fare. We were in the Penelope room, upstairs next to the balcony and the front street.....we were not annoyed by street noise. Since the hotel is old, walls and entry doors are not insulated so one can hear the "neighbors". No elevator. We did miss a coffee unit in our room, and there was no hair dryer but no problem this time as we were in NB for tubing on the Comal River. There was a dorm fridge in the room plus pretzels and chocolate. King bed was comfortable and clean. Only a block away from a tube rental location. If we return to NB, we will be staying here again. The Piano Bar was a step back into time and a nice way to wind down the day.

We had a fabulous stay at Prince Solms Inn. Al, the innkeeper & his family/staff were so warm and inviting! We stayed in the Texas Room, which is part of the renovated feed store and it was better than we imagined, the pictures don't do it justice. We went to the Uptown Piano Bar in the basement of the B&B and we loved it. Brett the pianist played my husband a Beatles/Pink Floyd/Stevie Wonder medley and he was in heaven. We can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: The Texas Room has a full kitchen and private patio.

Drunk wedding guests just stay all night without rooms, run around the inn pestering their friends that did have rooms. One crashed and slobbered on the parlor couch immediately under our room. No sleep for us at all. Inn keeper apparently off site or crashed on the parlor couch. Motel whatever would have been better.
