I was in Tyler for a 2 week teacher workshop. My second night I was scouting around and found Bernard's. BEST LUCK EVER! I even went back for a second visit at the end of the workshop. Get the filet. GET THE FILET!

This is my favorite food in Tyler, and wanted to treat some friends to a great dinner last week. The food was amazing - the seared scallop appetizers that melt in your mouth, rainbow trout stuffed with crab, Chilean sea bass that is out of this world, and red snapper did not disappoint, but the atmosphere did. There were two couples seated across the room from us (in the grotto) and one of the women had clearly been served too much wine. Her volume was set on high, and she wanted to make sure everyone in the room was aware of her opinions on Botox that wasn't administered correctly (she used a cruder phrase that rhymes with witty), and her oration was peppered with f-bombs. When she arose and staggered to relieve herself, we were hopeful that move either signaled her impending departure or that someone would notice she'd had enough. Alas, that was not the case. The owner joined the table and poured more wine for her. The men at the table completely ignored both women in favor of their own conversation, and either were blissfully unaware of her condition or had learned to tune her out. I wish the rest of us could have been that lucky. Her foul mouth ruined what should have been a special night. This is the second time this year that a drunk has ruined my night at Bernard. Learn how to cut them off! Please.

This restaurant has consistently been a top restaurant in Tyler for years. As a local, I highly recommend dining here. The food quality and atmosphere are excellent. You can’t beat the filet mignon in bearnaise sauce, my favorite, but all of their dishes are good. The location is a bit hidden, but the locals know where it is so don’t miss the opportunity to dine at Bernard’s......you’ll be glad you did. Ask to be seated in the wine cellar.

Special occasion? Only one place in Tyler. Enjoyed our 42nd Anniversary there last night. Food and service were both impeccable. Have been enjoying Bernard’s for years and probably will for many years to come. Ask for Chris for special attention.

Bernard's is a great place to visit with friends, eat delicious authentic Mediterranean food in a quiet castle like atmosphere. We enjoyed the warm bread and olive tapenade, crab cake and mussels appetizers, crisp salad, sea bass, trout and a steak cooked just right followed by a light shared chocolate dessert. The excellent service is a treat that needs to be shared. David is an excellent waiter and Bernard is always a delightful and gracious host for lunch or dinner.
