We rented three units at Black Bear Lodge. Let me start by saying 1) it was our first time to Deer Valley; and 2) the location of Black Bear Lodge is awesome! It's a short walk to the Deer Valley ski rental/chair lifts, private lesson area, etc. Now the BBL units...they were all similar but the quality of care/upgrades/upkeep was definitely different! We will take a closer look at this information in the future. Our Unit #302 had MAJOR heating issues (as in we were sweating to death and not sleeping each night). After 4 service calls and three sleepless nights, the issue was resolved but we were not thrilled with that part! (The Wyndham customer service people were definitely responsive, which was appreciated.) We kept tripping over a large area rug in the living room so we rolled it up and stuck it in one of the bedrooms. The bedrooms have no ceiling lights and the room with four bunkbeds had ONE table lamp. My kids had to use their phone flashlights to find their clothes. There were old, fake greens on the hearth and in the bedrooms. The unit, in general, just needs an investment (and it wouldn't be a lot) to freshen it up. For the $1300 a night that we paid, we can't say that it was ideal. (The hot tub on the balcony was fantastic, however!) My parents were in Unit #230 which was much nicer (upgrades/well maintained). The hot tub is smaller but it was just the two of them so they didn't care. The unit came with a fridge filled with water bottles, a Keurig with coffee pods, puzzles/games...just thoughtful touches that made it nice and added value.

Overall, we will look at Black Bear Lodge again but will definitely not return to Unit 302 unless upgrades are made.

Don’t think you will get the unit you reserved. Just because you booked a 3rd floor room with a view doesn’t mean they wont switch you to the first floor with a view of the back of a fire station. They claim this is comparable. Also, good luck getting prior notification. You will show up to find a dear john letter in your welcome pack.

Dear Guest,

I sincerely apologize that your experience was not what you hoped. While we do everything we possibly can to keep guests in the original unit they have reserved, sometimes a mechanical issue will require a move to a different unit within the building. Obviously we do try to minimize the impact when this type of situation occurs, and we do contact guests in advance when at all possible. I again apologize for your experience and do hope that you give Black Bear Lodge another opportunity should you return to Deer Valley. Thank you.

Unit 431 is excellent! Very clean, newly renovated, smells good, I didn't get itchy, has new kitchen, has 2 kinds of coffee makers, has lots of kitchen stuff. Rooms lights are not bright enough though.

The perfect staycation! We rented Redbox movies, brought board games, microwave popcorn and plenty of treats and spent a couple of nights just hanging out as a family! The parking was super convenient! The kids had fun playing in the outdoor heated pool and hot tub - even though there was snow on the ground ! I would definitely stay here again!

Gary,
Thanks for taking the time to leave us this feedback. Summer stays are a little different at Black Bear Lodge. You can see how for a ski vacation, the location is ideal! However, I understand that the property is not ideally location for summer strolling downtown. We do have some condos at Black Bear Lodge with air conditioning. When booking, contact a reservations agent to ensure that amenity is included.

Best,
Alicia S.
