We have one more night here of a four night vacation. I can’t wait to get home and am thinking of just leaving tonight. I felt completely misled by the telephone operators at Okemo. This is our first trip to Okemo. Our family of four usually takes about three long weekend ski trips per year. Most recently we spent four nights at the Von Trapp family Lodge up in Stowe. We have heard so many nice things about Okemo so we thought we would try it. Never again. We are staying in a one bedroom condo, building B, mountain lodge at Okemo. Yes, the location is fabulous for skiing. That’s it. Paying over $3,000 for 4 night for location simply isn’t worth it. I asked two different if the ski lockers we’re on the ground floor or in a basement. Both of them asked me to hang on so they could get information, and both of them confirmed that that was the case. They were both wrong. The ski locker is on the third floor next to your condo. That means at the end of every day you have to carry up all your equipment because there is no elevator. I was hit by a car last November and cannot manage. My husband has to take several trips to get everything up and down for me and the kids. It’s one thing to unload and load the car at the start and finish of a four-day vacation, it’s another thing to be taking all these trips every morning and every afternoon. The other thing that was misleading is the pool situation. Three different Okemo folks said we would have access to the pool at the hotel. I asked, “the outdoor one?” They all confirmed yes, both the hotel and spring house. How can they be so misinformed? We tried to go to the pool at the hotel, but we’re turned away. At spring house, the hot tub literally had NINE CHILDREN, none of them ten or above. Most looked under 6, plus their parents. The kids would not even shift over for my husband and I to have a seat. We did not feel comfortable pointing to the side and asking them to get out because then the parents would have been irritated with us which would be uncomfortable there should be a staff member doing that. I tried to rinse off in the locker room, but there is no hot water in the shower was covered in hair, Band-Aids, and dirty towels. It was the grossest locker room I’ve ever seen. I was horrified. It is worse than at my regular old gym at home. Then you have to just drive back two miles wet and climb three flights of stairs. The condo itself is awful. I knew it would be outdated because it’s old. Sure, I was expecting horrible furniture and ugly brown decor. I was told that there would be enough room to set up two camping cots in the living room. No one in the history of humanity has ever woken up to say, “wow, I had a great night’s sleep on that pullout sofa bed.” I had a lengthy conversation with a woman on the phone about the fact that my husband and I would take the bed and we’d like a condo with room for the kids to not be on a sofa. We could bring our own Swiss folding cots. She assured me that they would fit in the living room and still be able to sit on the sofa. Not the case at all. We can only fit one cot so someone is sitting on the unopened sofa. There is also no place to put our stuff. There are four classes, two of them are locked with the owner’s belongings, and the other two are filled with useless items. For example, one closet is full of a giant roll of a piece of carpet. Seriously? Why on earth is this in the closet that we are supposed to use. There are four electric fans in another closet and a giant filthy stained comforter that are supposed to go on the couch. There are no empty cupboards to put our food in. The kitchen is filled with useless items, like two electric CanOpener’s when there’s just a regular small handheld one in the drawer. Why is there all this clutter? Don’t they realize that people staying here bring things that they need to use? I have never been so uncomfortable in recent memory. We travel a lot and I honestly can’t think of a worse experience. We ate at the restaurant that takes reservations over at the hotel. We waited 25 minutes after being seated and no one visited our table while we watch three other tables get seated, served drinks, and have their orders taken. I had to go to the hostess station and ask to please send someone over. My overall conclusion is the staff at Okemo is very poorly trained, and not remotely educated on the important details of their properties. We will not be back.
