Owner description: Old-fashioned, downtown movie theater.

The theatre is located centrally on State St. There is metered parking on the street outside (it appears to stop charging at 5pm). It looks like a classic movie theatre from days gone by.

Inside it still looks like it's out of time. Sure it could use a bit of tarting-up but maybe that would take away some of the charm.

We saw Spider-Man here. It had been out for a while so it wasn't surprising that there were only 8 people in the audience.

The individual screen we were in held 40 people max and I guess the other 5 screens would be similar. The movie screen is quite small (compared to modern theatres), but it is in proportion to the overall size of the place.

It was a good experience overall.

The small theater has an odd angle for the seating. You soent alot of time with your head tilted to watch the movie.

Montpelier has two theaters for movie lovers. The Capitol shows lots of conventional big screen releases-- action, comedies, romance. The Capitol is generally well run and clean, albeit a bit tired and in need of updating. But good enough. The other theater, the Savoy, is more of an art house and often has films worth watching tha you'd never see at the Capitol.

This theater is a classic right next to the State Capitol Building. It is like stepping back in time when you enter. They don't make theaters like this anymore and I am glad this one is still around!
