After staying in many hotel/inns near all VT ski mountains this is the best deal by far. I love an afternoon arrival to homeade cookies made by the owners to the FABULOUS breakfasts they make as well. Rooms are clean and the hot tub is a great way to relax after a day of skiing. I always know it will be a great stay here and the owners, Mike and Shannon are so friendly and take great pride in the lodge. We had a ski club of 80 people that took over the hotel and things could not have been smoother. Mountain is quick shuttle ride to mountain. You will not be dissapointed!

The Northern Lights Lodge was the perfect, affordable option for our ski trip to Stowe. The lodge is only a 5 minute drive or a short shuttle ride to the mountain. Our room was very spacious and there was a wonderful charm about the place. The complementary breakfast buffet was delicious and had enough options to make everyone in our group happy. There is a beautiful dining/bar area where we ate dinner and hung out by the fireplace. The lodge does not have a liquor license, but you can always BYOB!

The innkeepers are friendly and attentive and they will go out of their way to make sure that their guests are satisfied. In fact, my friends and I were using the hot tub and we thought that it was too hot when we first got in. We asked innkeeper Mike if there was anything he could do to cool it down and he said of course! Apparently, the night before another guest had asked him to turn up the temperature on the hot tub because he had thought it was too cold. I really appreciate how accommodating Mike was to us and to his other guest.

In talking with the innkeepers, we learned that they are relatively new owners and are actively working to upgrade the place. I think that they have priced fairly considering this and the lodge was a great option for what we wanted which was an affordable trip to Stowe.

We had really been looking forward to staying here but almost from the moment we arrived we were wishing we didn't have to stay 2 nights. This is not an upmarket place and nor did I expect it to be anything of the sort but I was really let down by how unclean our room was and how scruffy other things appeared to be. We stayed in October and arrived at dark, the hotel looked deserted in the dark, there was hardly any outdoor lighting and as cars don't park at the front it looked almost abandoned. The grounds of the hotel are not well kept which added to the poor impression. I think it would be really helpful if the owners placed some signage outside so it is clear where the check in door is (yes I think there only was one door but as it was so dark and no cars out front it would have been nice to see a sign saying 'reception' so we were sure we were in the right place), also some more lighting is really needed.

Walking along to check in I saw through the window a bar area with chairs all stacked up on the tables, what a shame that this area wasn't utilised as it would be a nice area for guests to relax in the evening and it would also go a long way to making the hotel look nice from the outisde and see some life!

We had a 'superior' room - I dread to think what a lesser room would have been like! We were in the main building but in a section that appeared to be an extension. The first thing that hit us when we walked in was a horrible musty smell. There were several hairs in the bath. And a dead spider crushed into the ceiling, nice! The quality of the extension to the building was poor as the room was squint and it felt like we were sinking - although I could have looked passed this had other things been better. The room is dated with some fixtures past their best.

There is a TV in the room and some drawer units - unfortunately some of the drawers were filled with a bag of rubbish left by another guest. I wonder if the cleaners struggle to keep on top of everything as the next day we went out in the morning and came back at 1pm to find the room still wasn't cleaned despite us leaving a sign out to say it was ready for cleaning - perhaps this is just the time they operate to but I have never had to wait so long for a room to be cleaned before. When we got back to the room at about 7pm we found that the cleaner had opened a window (probably because of the musty smell in the room) and left it open so the room was freezing - not very happy about that.

Also the climate control in the room was super noisy and impossible to sleep with it on. The walls were paper thin and I woke several times during the night thinking somebody was in the room only to find that they were just people walking through the corridor. There was a large gap at the bottom of the door of our room which let in a lot of light - but nowhere near as bad as the door on another room (can't remember the number but it is the one which faces right down the long corridor) it was so bad it was actually hilarious, you could probably get your hand right under it!!!

Breakfast is included in the room rate and it was a nice offering and plenty to choose from - one thing going for this hotel. One thing I did think though was that some of the hot items were not piping hot, not a big deal but I remember thinking it both mornings. Also some backround music or something would be nice as it was painfully quiet with no atmosphere!

If you are staying in the main building you have to walk over the pool to get through to the breakfast room - quirky but cool. One small thing though!...when walking along the room corridor at the end you are faced with a few closed doors and it's not clear which door goes where...a simple sign saying pool, reception and breakfast room would help.

I understand that this hotel got new owners some time ago now and that they say they are upgrading the hotel step by step - fair enough but I really don't think the room we stayed in can be described and charged as a 'superior' room - if rennovations are ongoing then this should be reflected in the price...you can't charge simply based on a good location alone.

I would not return to this hotel, the main thing I can't look past was the awful musty smell which hits you when you walk into the room we were given. Perhaps we were unlucky as other reviewers speak highly of this place so maybe we got a sub standard room.

We are a family of four with 2 teenage sons. We reserved 2 rooms for optimimum comfort. The price for the 2 rooms was typical of what you would normally pay for 1 room. Northern Lights has a feeling of a bed and breakfast. The owners were 100% accessable. There was hot cider, homemade delicious cookies and scones available everyday.
The property was very clean as well.

Great location, minutes from the ski hill. One of the closest hotels to the hill without paying way too much $$. Hotel was clean and had rustic charm. Owners very personable and easy going. Went with a group of friends and facilities were great. Hot tub was great to relax in after the hill with others. Hot buffet breakfast in morning (free!) was fantastic. Great value! Will go back next time in stowe.

This hotel is a dump. Two nights without hot water, a bathroom that had hair all over it and looked like it hadnt been cleaned in months, hair on the blankets and a condescending owner. Paper thing walls were really awesome for the 3am german techno music fest heard on the first night there, this place sucked. The only good thing about this place is that it was close to mountain. Do yourself a favor and avoid the Northern Lights Hotel in Stowe. Id rather drive a half hour to the mountain then over pay to stay in this dump.

Room Tip: Stay away from this place
