“Nice Surprise”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

We stayed at the Inn for 3 nights on a very rainy weekend. The accommodations met our expectations. We stayed in the motel and the room was large (2 queens and a single) with a private bath. The other room we used was inside the Innn. It had an exterior entrance and was quite nice with twin beds and private bath. The innkeepers were very warm and welcoming. We had a dog with us and he was welcome anywhere. One evening we used the large table in the main house to eat pizza and play games. The innkeepers told us to make ourselves at home. They kept the woodstove burning for us and it was very nice.

This summer was the second time we stayed at this Inn. We have stayed there over for a winter vacation and would very like to come back.

This place has a great atmosphere and the best innkeepers we ever have meet! They really make our stay a succes.

They don´t pretend to be a fancy place and for the money you pay for this place you really get a super deal! For us it is not about the money but the innkeepers! They are simple the best!!

i stayed here in aug 2011 as part of a trek america tour, if you want luxury then this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for somewhere clean and friendly to stay then this is the place, the owners were very friendly and helpful. We had free use of bikes, a pool table in the lounge area, full use of the kitchen and also free wifi. would come back here.

This is the third time that I have stayed at The Riverside Inn and I have enjoyed my stays each time ...The owners, Kay and Julian are friendly and very accommodating. This is not a pretentious Inn ! it is clean and comfortable and very well priced. It is just "up the road" from the village and, the rooms are quietly situates behind the house . I will be back Bobcaygeon ON Canada

I made a reservation in May planning to stay at the Riverside Inn in June for a dog event. Unfortunately the event was cancelled due to torrential rains and although I gave them 5 days' notice, they refused to give me a refund. I was aware of their no refund policy, but I was hoping they would make an exception as it was not peak vacation season. This is the first place where I have stayed at that absolutely does not offer refunds (unless they can book the room again, but after charging your credit card as soon as you make the reservation they have no incentive to rebook it). So I had to stay here like it or not. That being said, here are the pros and cons:

Pros:

+ Convenient location and a 2 minute walk to the famous Stowe Recreation Path.
+ Julian is a cordial and friendly inn keeper but he is sometimes hard to reach by phone. It took multiple phone calls to get through to them to explain my dilemma.
+ Dog-friendly. We stayed in the motel part of the Inn.
+ Piecasso, a fantastic pizzeria, is within walking distance minutes away.
+ Room had a fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker.
+ Room, including the bathroom, was very clean but not immaculate. The carpeting had stains.
+ The windows open and they have A/C and a nice ceiling fan which kept things cool.

Cons

- Aforementioned "No Refund" policy.
- No telephone, hairdryer or alarm clock in the room. Bring your own if you want a wake-up call.
- The decor could be described as "Rec Room Rustic" -- similar to what you'd find if you crashed in your friend's basement rec room. The furniture (beds, table w/ chair, bureau/desk combo) looked secondhand and scratched. The entire room and outside could use a paint job.
-The TV is an old CRT as well as an old VCR. The remotes had tape on the back to keep the batteries from falling out.
- This place is not fancy or luxurious -- if you're looking for the five star treatment, go somewhere else.

Due to their unreasonable no refund policy, I would not return. Spend the extra money and go to a somewhere else nicer that offers a refund!

no luxury amenities here! but that's not why you book a room here... it's cheap, in a great location, and you have plenty of $$$ left over for several weeks worth of ski passes. the shed and piecasso are just a stone's throw away. a huge perk is that the back of the property is on the stowe recreation path. we snowshoed for several miles on the rec path. we booked a room at the main house. innkeepers were very welcoming. we had our own bathroom, but many rooms had to share a bathroom. don't expect tv or cable. really bare bones here, you get a bed and a roof over your head. wi-fi only worked downstairs in the communal living area, signal was too weak for us to connect upstairs in our room. floors are creaky, you can hear everything your neighbors are doing (but everyone's fairly respectful about noise level). probably would not book a room here again because we need more upscale amenities, but we can appreciate the tremendous value of this place.

When we arrived at the Riverside, we were welcomed into the in with warm hands. Almost like when you arrive at a nice family members house. Never any problems, inn keepers are great on advice (where to eat, hang out, etc.). We had to cut our stay here early because they were all booked up so we stayed at the Stowe Mountain Lodge but superb Hospitality. We'll be back, no doubt about it! Thanks Kay and Julian (Inn Keepers)
