This hotel is off the beaten path but not remote, situated a the edge of a small town with access to the metropolitan DC area (1 hour drive) and Washington Dulles airport (45 minutes). My wife and I especially enjoyed the historic building and grounds and its history of entertaining many of our Presidents. We stayed in the Lindbergh room (rooms are given names of past guests such as JFK, Nixon, Eisenhower, and yes, Lindbergh) which had a private bathroom which is important to us. All of the rooms share this feature. Each room has its own personality with distinctive furnishings that reflect an aura of past elegance but provide modern convieniences such as adequate lighting for reading in bed or provided chairs/sofas. No evaluation of a B & B would be complete without a look at the owners and Inn Keeper. Owners Bif and Barb were present in the evening and morning of our stay and were a delightful couple with a wonderful sense of humor who were intriguing to talk to because of their variety of interests and encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the mansion. The Inn Keeper, Andrew, was very personable and not only remembered our names (we were there only one night) but our likes and dislikes, something that amazed us since the mansion was completely full on the night we stayed I would recommend this property to anyone interested in a historic residence where they can experience the romance and elegance of a time gone by, where they can be pampered as much as they want, or just want a private retreat for a weekend.
