How do I love thee? Let me count the ways... What? That's already been said? Oh well, it's worth saying again about Fleurie.

I'll not be pretentious and try to adequately describe the taste and quality of the dishes served at this wonderful establishment. But, I will call out one item - Jane is a fantastic person to lead one through the ordering process with succulent descriptions of the fare.

Lobster bisque, seared scallops and carpaccio started off the meal with explosions of flavors. Our lobster, lamb and beef entrees were similarly well executed and wonderful to savor.

So, great food, bracketed with wonderful cocktails to start and excellent expresso and desserts to finish.

A wonderfully paced meal that allowed for wonderful conversation and full enjoyment of the meal.

An excellently managed and staffed restaurant that is well worth a trip to Charlottesville.

Traveling thru Charlottesville last evening we decided to stop for dinner. The restaurant is located just off the Mall in historic downtown. We parked at the Market street parking lot and walked the 2 blocks to the restaurant. We were very fortunate to get a table at about 6:15 for dinner. The place was full with the exception of 2 tables. Fluere isnt very big so if you want to go surely recommend a reservation. Appetizers[ Lobster bisque and lamb carpaccio] were exceptional. Our waiter, a student graduating from UVA was efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. He knew we were traveling and was able to move our order forward. The entree' s were lobster and sea bass. Both again exceptional. By the time we left all tables were full. This is a hidden gem in C burg and we will go every time we can

Dining at Fleurie was a splurge for us (we were celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary). We thought Monday would be a slow night to eat out; boy, were we wrong. There were several groups eating at the same time as us. We felt like we got lost in the chaos. It become painfully obvious there was a gap between our appetizer and entree when I started checking my watch. The gap turned out to be almost one hour. Okay, I understand getting slammed by a large amount of diners. Just recognize that and say you're sorry (or better yet, offer us something, anything); that did not happen. We don't like feeling ignored, and sadly, that was how we felt. Although the food was delicious, we would think long and hard about going again.

Yes, the food is classically prepared, served, and it's hard to complain. There are no real surprises on the menu, but what you'll get is darned near perfect, and it deserves high marks all around. But this is the kind of place where the pristine food means the service might border on arrogance. The chef has rules; follow them. The way they announce the dishes can almost seem like an SNL skit. And a dessert was brought out in a dish that burned the hand of someone in our party when she touched it; I mean, if a Mexican restaurant can warn you that a plate is too hot to touch, can't a faux-Euro waiter? This is a town with plenty of excellent chefs, dishes, and atmosphere; I would return to Fleurie, but it would be hard to sit through another litany of how precious the food is--even though it is!

There was a tasting menu, a la caret menu and a pre-theater dinner menu. We chose the pre-theater menu - so nice to have this option. The menu was varied with interesting choices. We had a delicious dinner - the portions a perfect size. My husband had scallops - said they were really delicious. I had the locally sourced beef fillet - also delicious. For dessert we both had chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet, fresh raspberries and a cocoa nib cookie - nice finish to dinner. After dessert we were given another dessert - 2 pieces of chocolate, 2 cookies and two strawberry tartlets. We didn't ask why - just enjoyed them! The restaurant was quiet and had a pleasant atmosphere as well as and professional service.
