We went there to meet up after a VCU basketball game, and arrived shortly after 5 pm, early for a Saturday evening. The server seemed young, inexperienced and unsure of himself. We were told to seat ourselves. The place is not visually appealing the decor just looks tired. Firehouse subs does the fire engine theme much better. Service was slow and diffident throughout the evening. The menus are big and dog-eared, the names are confusing, and the selection isn't all that big. The beer menu is limited, our server didn't know anything about the beer menu, and they were out of local brew. In this day and age, a strong beer menu is almost standard. Our group ordered a burger, a rack of ribs with baked beans and green beans on the side, and two combo plates. One of the combo BBQ plates was ordered with a side Caesar salad (more on that later). The burger was bland, only tasting like the pepper from the bacon. The ribs weren't smoky flavored, or fall off the bone, or moist at all. The baked and green beans both just tasted strange. And the Caesar salad never came at all. When we informed the server of the missing salad, he just said "oh, uuhhh". We told him it was too late to serve it, and that was that. A nice touch would have been "sorry", then offer a token like a couple of bucks off the bill or 5% off your next visit.
All in all it was a big disappointment, barely mediocre.
