“Spacious and comfortable, though not everything is as advertised”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2012

I stayed here 3 nights while attending a conference at VMI. It’s a large, sprawling motel on the north side of town. The property is set back a couple of blocks from busy Lee Highway, so you hear no traffic noise at all. This Best Western has a faux-Colonial motif, and it’s nicely landscaped, with large comfortable rooms (my room with king bed measured about 14x27 feet). Booking through hotels.com I got the room for about $85 a night, which I thought was decent. There’s plenty of floor space even with a king bed, an upholstered chair, a desk, dresser, and a half-size refrigerator topped with a microwave. The reservation indicated a “balcony room” on the second floor, but there was no balcony, and upon inspection of the exterior of the hotel, I saw no balconies anywhere. That appears to be an imaginary feature, but it sounds nice. The bed was comfortable, and the linens were of good quality. The room was also quiet, though I had the impression that during my stay the motel had nowhere near full occupancy. The room décor is a rather icky pink and green with furniture approximating Shaker style, and the walls are adorned with cutsie Americana art, rife with pink hearts.

Wireless internet is free, very dependable, and easy to access. The flat-screen TV also worked well, has a sleep timer on it, which I appreciate, and there is a nice selection of cable channels on the menu. The bathroom is adequate, including an inexpensive plastic shower-tub where the management leaves a complimentary rubber duckie for guests. Hot water is prompt and plentiful, and the towels are of good quality. There’s also a coffeemaker in the bathroom.

The staff were friendly and accommodating to various degrees of competence. Maid service was efficient, and check-in and check-out were hassle-free. Breakfast is included in the cost of the room and is available from 6:30 to 10 a.m. The food was OK, including some hot and cold dishes, but it’s unfortunate that so much waste and refuse are generated. Not only are utensils and serving items all throw-away, the juice cups, forks, spoons and knives are also all individually wrapped in plastic (each piece wrapped separately). This seems to take concerns about sanitation to an extreme.

There are mirror swimming pools, one indoors and one outdoors, both of them small. The pools are connected by a flow-through channel that passes underneath a glass exterior wall. (The outdoor pool was closed for the season during my visit.) Unfortunately, the pool does not open before 9:00 a.m., which makes it inconvenient to swim before beginning the day. In lieu of a business center, the motel offers the use of a single PC and printer in the front lobby. I printed out my boarding pass there without difficulty. For food, there’s a Ruby Tuesdays restaurant nearby, which stays open till 11:00 p.m.

After talking to colleagues at the conference I attended about their lodgings, I believe that Best Western Plus Hunt Ridge is one of the better choices of places to stay in Lexington, and I would return and stay here again if I needed to overnight in the area.

Room Tip: The King room was large.

As a frequent traveler to Lexington VA I have tried multiple hotels in town and keep returning to Best Western. They have tried (and succeeded) to maintain a quality, friendly, and clean operation. They have bent over backwards to accommodate my family in the past, even on the busiest Lexington weekends. Thanks Best Western for creating such a comfortable atmosphere. Love too that though you are pet friendly, I have not encountered a "dog dirty" room yet.

Room Tip: If traveling with a pet, request a room on first floor to avoid having to deal with elevator.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience about your most recent visit with us. We love to hear that our guests are treated like family and that our four legged friends are comfortable too. We take great effort to ensure clean rooms and often hear from our guests that they are surprised that we take pets as they have seen no evidence of them. We owe that to our awesome staff, they are truly dedicated to making your stay a memorable one. We can't wait to have you back with us.

We stayed at this hotel recently and found it to be clean, pet friendly and the staff was very helpful. The indoor pool was a nice addition, the kids were very happy to swim after the competition. We left too early for the free breakfast but others in our group were pleased with the food. Best of all it was very close to the horse center!!!! We will be back for sure next month!!

We are so happy that you and your family were able to stay with us on your recent visit to Lexington Virginia. Our indoor-outdoor pool is always a favorite with kids. Since we are the closest hotel to the Virginia Horse Center we often have many people with pets and we are pleased to offer them accommodations. Make sure you check out our breakfast next time, we now have scrambled eggs, sausage patties and some other new additions. We also now have flat screens in all our guest rooms. We also offer competitive discounts for those attending events at the Virginia Horse Center make sure to ask when making your reservation. We look forward to being your home away home again very soon.

We chose this hotel as it was $25 less per night than my husband's client's room across the road. Set up away from the highway, it was quiet, reminiscent of hunt country, nicely landscaped. We were welcomed by a fire in the fireplace in the well appointed lobby. We enjoyed the 24 hour coffee and juice bar. The breakfast included fresh fruit and fruit cups, boiled eggs, wafflemaker, sausage gravy and biscuits, croissants, cream cheese muffins, assorted cheese cubes and more. Indoor/outdoor pool, and a rubber duckie for our tub. The staff was friendly and eager to serve. Only thing I'd change would be the false front dresser, with two deep drawers instead of four shallow ones.

Room Tip: There are a few balcony rooms, ask for one if you'd like.

Room was clean. beds/pillows were fair. room had a balcony which was very nice. we used a pet-friendly room which was inconveniently located on the third floor with the only access through the lobby. Pet area was a narrow walkway. Staff was pleasant. Breakfast was good with a wide variety including healhier options - yogurt, hard boiled eggs etc.

My friend and

My friend and I chose this hotel from the AAA book on our way to Charleston. We had not intended to be in the area. Staff was friendly and helpful, room clean and had everything one could want for a one night stay. Pool looked very nice and was warm. Breakfast was well appointed. Only small difficulty was that the well praised restaurant attached was no longer in service. We both agreed we would stay here again if in the area.

Thank you for taking the time to share your pleasant experience during your recent stay at Best Western Plus Inn at Hunt Ridge. We strive to offer the best in cleanliness and customer satisfaction at a reasonable price. I do apologize that our on-site restaurant is currently closed. We are working to find someone new to take over the space. The former restaurant Gwillakers is now called Niko's Grille and is located in downtown Lexington. We hope to see you again on your next trip through Historic Lexington.
