Small Country Campground
Reviewed 22 November 2011

Our third visit here, and just now writing a review. We had the most relaxing, enjoyable times during our stays here.

This is not an area action-packed with things to do, but you are near town. If you want quiet, and a lovely but laid-back park feel, this could be it.

Bath houses, usually clean. No big complaints. Roomy & bright, individual locking mini rooms. Camp security regularly roves, but you're pretty much left alone, unless you want something.

We did want something. Peace & quiet. We got it. We parked RIGHT beside the lake, and had lovely walks in the woods every day. Any campers we encounters were pleasant, as is the staff. We did see a bobcat one evening as we were leaving for town. Just a quick qlimpse at the park exit.

There is a small camp store, and no wifi. We didn't mind. We drove to Charlottesville a couple of times, and to a nearby town for some exploration. There are a dew old hold mines nearby in Mineral, and we found some farmers in the creek nearby.

A couple of local restaurants in town (Louisa) were very good. One, a bbq joint that we liked forward to returning to. My husband also got a good haircut in town, and if you need a Walmart - they just built one about an exit or so down the road, off the main highway.

There are quite a few twists & turns to get here, as its comfortably distanced from the main roads, but the markings are excellent.

I will be back. Not for any excitement, really. Just a good solid camp experience, in a nice place. I left feeling so relaxed. Don't look for fancy, but clean, good value & nice people in a place surrounded by nature - that's here.

Love this quiet shaded campground. My kids played for hours fishing, jumping off the water trampoline on the lake, and playing on the jumping pillows. The campsites are a little small and hard to back our camper into because of all the trees but once we were settled we appreicated all the shade. My only concern is if you have little ones you should supervise them on the water trampoline as it can get crowded with kids and older kids tend to be too rough. (alot of pushing and shoving) They do offer life vests for the kids using the trampoline since it is quite a swim to get there. They had a DJ come on the weekend which was a lot of fun for the adults as well as the kids. We would definetly stay here again.
