A very nice place for an afternoon walk. Butterfly building is only dead/pinned ones, but an impressive selection. Climb the watch tower for good views, but the swamp is filled w/ mozzies...especially late day.

A beautifully landscaped garden with a quaint restaurant overlooking the lake, an aviary with some pretty birds, good walking paths and a-watch tower offering panoramic views.
Can easily spend a couple of hours in this serene garden inspired by Kew Gardens in London and walk away feeling relaxed.

Beautiful place with relaxing setting.
Can be busy at weekends.
Allow about 2+ hours to walk around and enjoy.

Some stunning things here...

Great walking...

We enjoyed the exotic birds...

The bamboo area is amazing...

But top of the bill is the orchid collection...sensational... as is the butterfly museum....

Allow two to three hours... there is a lot to see...

And you need to be reasonably fit!

We have already seen many botanic garden all over the world (from Germany to Australia). But this one was by far the most overrated and overpriced garden we have been to.
Wherever we went, the botanic gardens were free and very well cleaned and well maintained.
Kandawgyi Garden on the other hand was 6.500 kyat (or 5 USD) per person. The main area around the lake was pretty, colorful and clean. But the moment you leave the main area the surrounding becomes dirty (eg.rubbish in the swamp area, dead plants) and the plants look like no one has taken care of them in a long time.
I would not have minded so much if the garden was for free or the entry fee a bit cheaper.

Thank Vanessa G
