There are a few ways to get the islet boat tours - you can walk from town (it is about 30 to 40 minutes) - simply walk down the main avenue, turn right when you reach the water, walk under the archway and keep going. We didn't know that and arranged for tour from our hotel - we were picked up by horse and carriage and taken to the boats. Our guide took us on a boat with 2 other people (instead of a full boatload). Although very nice, the beginning of the tour just shows you rich people's houses on the islands, then we visited the little fort island for a stop. We visited a couple islands that have a few monkeys - the monkeys get fed by tourists and guides, so they are very tame. It is nice to be out on the water, but it was not the nature-type trip we had hoped for. Cost from hotel for 2 people was $30 US, which included the fare for the boats.

We had an incredible experience with Viva Nicaragua Tour Company - They took us on a boat tour of the lake's 365+ islands on November 5th 2017, and it was so beautiful. The owner, Brenda, was incredibly nice and made us feel very comfortable in helping us book the tour. Carlos was our guide on the boat, and did an awesome job at giving us history, interesting information, and pointing out all the sights. We even got to go for a swim in the lake! We really liked that we got to choose the time of our boat tour, which was different than all the other companies we looked at in Granada. And they even picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off. We would definitely use Viva Nicaragua in the future!

We took a boat tour and it was ok. Beautiful surroundings and cute monkeys but the boat was crowded and the guide was uninspired. We saw people kayaking and we wished that we had done that as well.

We played 10 dollars each for the boat ride which included a stop at a dirty restaurant with a non-functioning swimming pool.

Plenty of birds to spot, lovely volcanic backdrop and generally very pleasant way to spend a bit of time seeing how it’s possible to live detached from the bustle of town life!

We did a three hour kayak tour of the islets, and loved it. Could have done with a bit more information/background, but it was lovely to just enjoy the beautiful surroundings and spot the bats and adorable monkeys! Remember your sunscreen!!
