“Brilliant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 January 2012

WOW! I've just returned from spending 2 weeks at Pension St. Leonhard, and all I can say is that it is one of the best hotel experiences I've had to date. Sigi, the owner, does a fantastic job of running the place, and nothing is too much trouble for him. We really could not have asked for a better stay. The rooms were always clean, the breakfast was excellent, and facilities were just great. The location of Pension St. Leonhard is about as good as you can get within Bad Gastein, and at the price presents great value.

Room Tip: Room 10 has the best views in town!

Very nice place with neat, clean and sufficient spaced rooms with good balconys, nice view over city/mountains and nice bathrooms.
The breakfast was very good with fresh cheese, ham, juice etc etc.
The owner (at least I think he is) is extremely nice and helps you with everything and talks to all the customers during breakfast. If you have any questions, just ask him and he will do everything he can to help you!
The trainstation and a lift to the nearest mountain are located almost across the street.

There's not much I can add to the compliments everyone else has written. We booked our room based on comments like this, and it was the best stay of our 3 1/2 weeks in Europe. We lucked out on the weather -- it had rained just before and just after our 2 nights. We woke up in the morning with a fantastic view of the Kruezkogel from our balcony(s) -- Sigi had upgraded us to the suite with a sitting room and bedroom, because I had mentioned in my booking request that it was our 30th anniversary and we were hoping for a room with a view. And what a view it was!
We started the day with a great breakfast, then a quick walk to the base of the Stubnerkogel gondola for a windy and scenic ride to the top and across the suspension bridge. (Sigi told us about the bridge and the free web photo you can take of yourself on the bridge.) Then down again and by bus out to the Gruner Baum, a lovely little valley. The bus ride was undoubtedly the most scenic city bus ride I've ever taken -- definitely worth the 1Euro each way! Then back to the pension and over to the pools at the Felsentherme. We enjoyed all of the pools, but especially the pounding waterfall and the views from the outdoor pools. Finally, dinner at the restaurant recommended by Sigi across from the train station, where the owner recognized us from the night before (the food and company were that good, we had to go back) and told us "no English -- you must order in German tonight, you've been here two days already!". So we did, and had a great time. Then back to the pension and sleep, punctuated occasionally by the sound of freight trains thundering through the narrow valley. What a fantastic anniversary! (Oh, and we were able to catch up on our email at the computer terminal on the lower floor.)

Highly recommended. For being so close to the train station, and for such nice rooms and breakfast, the price was very affordable. The facilities were very clean, and the breakfast had lots of variety. The owner was very friendly and he was present to make sure everyone got just what they wanted at breakfast. I am thankful that the taxi driver at the train statioin recommended Pension St. Leonhard to me!

We stayed at Pension St. Leonhard for 3 nights and here is our verdict:

ROOM:
We had THE best view in Badgastein. Period. As the B&B is up on a hill so we got a perfect birds eye view of the town and a straight view of the mountains. The room is spacious and clean with a nice balcony. Wi-Fi is free. We stayed in room 10 (3rd floor).

F&B:
The BEST breakfast we have had so far around Europe. Fresh warm bread, yogurt, cereals, cold cuts and cheese (even salmon), tomatoes and cucumber etc. They even offer hot chocolate if you like! And great coffee.

LOCATION:
The hotel is located just opposite the train station and up an easy slope. There is also a bus stop just opposite the train station if you wish to go hiking up in Sportgastein. There is also a cable car lift by the train station that takes you to the top of the mountains (Stubnerkogel). 10 mins walk to a supermarket and pharmacy. 5 mins walk to all restaurants and bars. 7 mins walking distance to the waterfall.

THE HOST:
Usually we are just happy with a friendly and informative host but Sigmund, our host at Pension St. Leonhard is incredible. Everything we asked, he will give us an answer and more! For instance, we need to look for a person in Badgastein and he starts calling up different sources to find out his exact location. Another instance is that after traveling around Europe for weeks and we had tons of dirty laundry that we are unwilling to pay 8.00 euro to wash just a pair of pants so we asked Sigmund if we can do some laundry at his place (without even asking the price coz we simply need to have some clean clothes). During checkout, we realized he didn't even charge us a cent for our load of laundry! He greets ALL his guests during breakfast, walking around the tables and talking to them. A wonderful host.

Hello! Me and my family spend the second year our ski holiday in Bad Gastein at St.Leonhard Pension. The rooms, the breakfast, services and the price were perfect for us, every year. Sigi is a great entertainer and Helga very helpful. The kids liked the little surprises that they made for them. We appreciated the sauna and the children liked the play-room
But the best thing about this pension is the location: in center, but quiet, 3 minutes walk to Felsenterme, 5 minutes walk to ski instalation Stubnerkogelbahn (carring the skies) and a lot of different specifics restaurants around.
We kindly recommend this place.
